« on: 16 October, 2006, 02:25:10 PM »
Right, thought someone on here may be able to help me fill in the missing gaps:

Starlord Annual 1980
Strontium Dog: Funfair of Fear
Writer: (John Wagner/Alan Grant?)
Artist: (Brendan McCarthy?)
Letters: ??

Starlord Annual 1981
Strontium Dog: ????
Writer: (John Wagner/Alan Grant?)
Artist: Keith Page
Letters: ??

Stalord Annual 1982
Strontium Dog: ????
Writer: (John Wagner/Alan Grant?)
Artist: Carlos Ezquerra
Letters: ??

Starlord Summer Special
Strontium Dog: ???
Writer: (John Wagner/Alan Grant?)
Artist: Brendan McCarthy
Letters: ???

If anyone can help me fill in the gaps that will be greatly appreciated.

Jon

The only story out of all of those that I would attribute to Wagner/Grant is the 82 annual story with Ezquerra

The others all contain weird swearing/tech/characterisations that dont really chime with the established Wagner tales.

In my head, I used to have some fair suspicions as to who did them, but that was a while ago... I'll have a look later and see if I can hazard any guesses!

The two earlier annual stories seem very similar to the story in the 1982 2000AD annual, which is by G P Rice.  Whoever that is...

based on a comparrison of artwork, I'd say that the 1980 artwork is Brendan McArthy too.

Cor - theres some terrible swipage going on there!  The Keith Page fight scene is a complete Ezquerra lift, and the funfair one has a suspicious panel by the great McCarthy that looks very familiar to the scatterbeam shot from the very first stront!

As for the swearing...

"Stonk them!" in the Keith Page one...struck me as a bit GP Rice.

"Mists of Neptune!" in the funfair one is very Jack Adrian (Chris Lowder)

Bill Henry is a pseudonym, yes? Presumably someone with two sons called Bill and Henry? According to a Sexton Blake website, Henry is Adrian (that is, he's Lowder!).  That would make sense "Jack Adrian" - "Bill Henry"

On top of those, there are also:

Assault on Trigol 3 (2000AD Sci-Fi Special 1979) 8 pages
Script: Steve MacManus, Artist: Rob Moran, Letters: John Aldrich
Thrill Power: ? (4 votes)

Strontium Dog: Untitled (2000AD Annual 1982) 6 pages
Script: Gary Rice, Artist: Steve Kyte
Thrill Power: 5.83 (6 votes)

The other give away in the KEith Page one is the fact "Johnnie" is used rather than Johnny... certainly not Wagner or Grant to make that fundamental slip methinks

Jon -

Does the credit-hunting mean the SD collections will be featuring a story/creator index? The lack of one in the Dredd Case Files was quite disappointing, especially in the earlier pre-credit strips (and even after then when pseudonyms were still widely used) and it would be nice if it was introduced in all future Case File (or CF-style) collections.

slightly around the topic here- does anyone with the vast encylopeadic knowledge know what a S/D wanted meter looks like display wise?
