EE #19: Time Flies!

Blimey, that was unexpected! The new EE features both series of Time Flies by Garth Ennis and Philip Bond [and Jon Beeston and Roger Langridge on later episodes of TFII, and colouring by Simon Jacob on TFII].

Reads like a time capsule from the early 90s. Odd.

Good if you'd rather be reading Deadline, not so good if you'd rather be reading 2000AD

Unexpected is right. There's an ad in the latest prog and I was very taken aback.

I always loved Bond's work, and I thought Time Flies was reasonably good, but I wouldn't buy an EE. It's just not strong enough.

I certainly haven't bought all of them, so far. One of its strengths is you don't need to.

Comics with the completism removed really take the pressure off!

Wow, the Secret Origin of Harry Kipling!  There's not much that I really hate from 2000AD's back catalogue, but 'Time Flies' is right up there with 'Chronos Carnival', Fleischer's Rogue' and Millar's Dredd.  Bond's work is alway nice, but the drunken Tracer Bullet slutting up to Bertie makes me retch, and that zombie pirate goon (Cutty O'Sark?) is my least favourite villain ever.

The first story was during my wilderness years, and although I was back on board at the time, I can't remember reading the second one (don't know if that's a good or bad thing, really), so it'll all at least be fresh to me.

Regardless of story, I *will* keep getting EEs, though, as what you've got is basically a 2000ad TPB in magazine form that's only 3 quid every two months. Also, with Cait getting properly interested in 2k now, it's a way she can read whole stories without letting her near my bookshelf or precious back progs. :)

With one, or at the most two are going to be issues that feature strips they don't like.  They surely felt it was worth getting regardless of the odd incompatible strip.

Bond must be one of the most underused artists ever to grace 2000ad. He really is very good. And does a mean sexy-woman, to match those of Gibson.

I especially loved his covers for Vertigo's Deadenders, an under-rated Brubaker gem that ended far too suddenly.

Surely this is worth getting for the art alone. I love Phillip Bond. Vinamarama is wonderful.

Haven't read Time Flies since it ran in the prog but I liked it - especially the bit where someone gets beaten to death with a speech baloon.

I liked that too. It seemed to take an age to go anywhere though, which is probably what killed it off.

After that I completely forgot Brubakers name until i started reading sleeper...

Agree, Deadenders was great. Kill Your Boyfriend was even aces too.
