Birmingham International Comic Show, any good?
« on: 27 May, 2008, 12:53:22 AM »
After my first convention in a decade, at Bristol, I've really got a taste for it again.

The Birmingham Comic Show web site seems to be a little slow at getting into gear, anyone one know if it's going to be any good? The details are a bit blurred?

El-lopo,

Brum is a great show. Last year they had Mike Mignola and Mick McMahon as guests of honour, and there were dozens more artists and writers. It's a fun show, compact, and very lively. Birmingham is good for accomodation and eating out too!

I've been since it started 2 years ago, and I'll definitely be going this year..

Hopefully see you there!

Rufus

Sounds good, and Hi-EX2 is on my list for next year.

It's pity the Birmingham Site isn't fully working yet. I do love to plan things.

It would be cool if Mick McMahon made it again, I could embarrass myself with some hero worship.

I'll be at Birmingham for the first time this year.

I'd love to go to Hi-Ex and I'll look into travel and accommodation a bit closer to the time. It's a bit harder to get to for me.

I'm  leaving the board for a bit and thought I'd say a proper goodbye.
I'm leaving mainly because I don't feel that I can say what I like about the progs. I don't want to rehash the arguments that have already been aired on this, but thought I should be clear about it.   may be back sometime but it won't be for a while. I won't be lurking, but may drop in on the chat from time to time.
This is a terrific board all over - I just read PVS's thread about positive things the board has done and didn't realise it has been so inspiring to so many people.  For me, it has been a comfortable funny place, which has sometimes made me laugh out loud and through which I've met some interesting people.  I learned how to be polite on the internet here - mainly by being a galah and then regretting it (my apologies to Frazer Irving, Gordon Rennie, PVS and David Bishop for harping , being rude and generally typing without thinking).  Whenever someone is new and rude, I remember what I used to be like (I think I'm more thoughtful now, but at first it was so intoxicating).
If or rather when I get to the UK, I will definitely let you know and see how many of you I can meet in the flesh.
Anyone here is welcome to drop me a line via my address here.

hoo roo all,

Floyd

Cheers Bou... I've no idea about flights to that part of Scotch-land.

I don't even know where the nearest airport is!

Might be an idea to put a wee link on the site about getting there (maybe you did this for last year and I just didn't notice).

I'll certainly look into it for next year, I really should get out more anyway.

Brum is a top show- though I didn't even manage to leave the FQP table last time. I got to gurgle in a fanboy stylee to Mike McMahon and even sleep in my own bed!

Hi_ex was possibly the best con I've ever been to. Seriously. I sold just enough to cover the cost of printing stock for the event, and spent way too much money- but I'll never forget the nights. More fun than I thought possible and I've got the mini-comics to prove it.

We have updated our site a little more now. We don't like to make announcements until everything is definate, so that's why some of the pages took a while to be uploaded.

This year's show will be even bigger than last year's making us the largest UK event devoted to comics, and our guest list is very impressive I think you'll agree.

We have secured a special rate for BICS visitors at:

The Paragon Hotel, 145 Alcester Street, Birmingham. B12 0PJ

( 0121 627 0627 | 7 0121 627 0628 | ( Direct Line 0121 606 4912

The agreed rates are £45.00 B&B for single rooms, £65.00 B&B for double rooms.

The reference for the guests to quote when calling to make a reservation is COMI041008, the hotel will require contact details and a credit/debit card guarantee for each room booking.

We are also looking at a deal with a hotel closer to the show, more news to follow.

Hope to see you there.

all the best,

Shane

Laterooms.com has some single rooms at The Paragon Hotel for £35 per night without breakfast, but I've just booked into the Aston Conference Centre for £38 per night which is slightly closer.
