That's disgusting and shameful.

And as hate mail a matter for the police, who i hope you've informed.

The idiot who wrote that has unwittingly sent you their DNA and i hope it's their downfall.

Blimey. What status does a weekly comic book hold in someone's life that they'd sink so low seemingly in it's defence?

Madness.

Truly sorry to hear about this.

I did post a negative review of the strip on 2000adreview with comments like "The characters are wooden and the plot and situations are predictable and clichéd. " and "Not a glaringly bad strip just one with nothing new to say ". I feel these fall under the banner of fair comment...

And as I said, I'd expect nothing less :-)

For the record guys, the person it was sent to burned the offensive letter. And it was printed, so no handwriting. It's not going to the police - although if it had arrived at my actual address? I'd have done it in a heartbeat.

That's not a suggestion, scary anonymous poo sender...

I'm fucking appalled, and I do hope you went straight to the police with that. It's a ridiculously offensive thing to do and quite out of all proportion.

Don't take it to heart. This incident does not reflect the feelings of any normal person regarding your writing! Stalag 666 hasn't been well received on the whole, but how many of your negative reviews have said "this guy can't write for toffee" or "don't get this guy to write anything else for 2000ad, please"? Probably very few! Stalag 666 isn't my favourite story in 2000ad either now or ever, but nor is it my least favourite. If my choice was to have it running at the moment or not to have it at all, I'd take the first option! And yes, I look forward to seeing whatever you write for 2000ad next, and not to see if it's better or worse than Stalag 666. The only thing I'm interested in finding out about your next project is will I enjoy it or not; not whether it is better than this or that.

Don't be disheartened by this stupidity. You're a writer. Don't let the actions of some shit-smearer convince you otherwise.

Okay, I'm a bit late there! The good wishes and protestations of disgust were pouring in at a rate of about one every two minutes even as I was composing my own.
Tony, can you feel the love?  :D

Clearly the work of a mentalist.

I haven't read the story, but I really want to pick up the back issues now to see what got this guys (I'm assuming it's a bloke) goat up!

Fucking hell. What a absolutely disgusting thing to do. I can only think (and hope) that it was a lurking/banned/rare posting mentalist and not one of the board regulars.

The chances of the cock-end actually owning up on this thread are obviously nil, as it's the anonymity that makes him feel safe from reprisals and a 'big man'. He's probably already worked himself up into a masturbatory frenzy reading this thread. I think the probability that he still lives with his mum despite being *far* too old to still be at home is pretty much 100%.

I'm really sorry that you and the person who opened the letter on your behalf had to endure that kind of mentalist abuse, Tony and I can but hope that it's discovered who sent it and that they're brought to task appropriately.

I think you've shown massive restraint here, Tony. You would have been well within your rights to take the matter further.

And people wonder why Fanboys get a bad press?

Nobody deserves what your family have received, really sorry to hear that, crazy crazy people out there.

Whose life could be so empty that they would do that?

Let's hope the arse who done this has the balls to own up here on the board then go and get help from a shrink, they need it.
I will name him Tharg, and I will hug him and pet him and squeeze him.

Tony

Just wanted to post my shock that someone who *claims* to be a fan of 2000AD could do this and offer some support to you .

The joy of 2000ad is that it is always changing and always has something different.  As a result, occasionally there'll be something that I don't enjoy.  There's *never* been something I hated - one or two things I have trouble getting through perhaps :)

One of the reasons I don't post to review threads is that I normally don't feel I have enough constructive to say about stuff.  Personally Stalag hasn't been floating my boat, but is, starting to pique my interest as I'm expecting something interesting at the end.

I honestly can't believe people get this worked up about it.  It's only a goddam comic.

Look forward to the next series Tony

Ye Gods, this truly is horrible. It's hard to imagine the kind of loon who'd do a thing like that, but I can only assume it wasn't one of the regulars, who seem a good bunch, even the ones who can't spell.

Feel the love. We look after our own round 'ere.
Nobody warned me I would be so awesome.

I can't believe it to be honest.  Totally crazy.  And I wish you had the letter still to go to the police as it is so out of order it is the minimum they deserve.

For what little it is worth, I like the story (and the art that goes with it).  I'm astonished that someone would actually do this though and I hope you never get another response like this, but if you do...please go to the police, find out who it is and get them banned for life from all expos, etc. as this is just horrible.

As an aside, I'd be very surprised if this doesn't get picked up for some column inches in the press.

That, as others have said, is appalling, and I suspect there's more behind it than just some random reader taking against one strip that (if you'll pardon me saying perhaps inappropriately at this point) is the very definition of inoffensive.  I'd also second, third or fourth the suggestion to get Police involved.  As a Civil Servant working in benefits for 16 years now, I've somewhat surprisingly avoided having anything similar directed my way or via any of the thousands of letters I've supervised on their way, though have heard tales - and I'm taking large sums off money of the poor, not writing for a weekly comic that you can choose to spend your hard earned groats on or not.  Personally, I'd want to track em down and sort em out, so any further nonsense, please follow it up with the authorities!

I'm certainly not happy that my own opinions will no doubt have been used as part of these shenanigans, though doubtless much less aggrieved than yourself.
