Truly sorry to hear that Locusts, I literally can't imagine how devastated I'd feel in your shoes.  It seems particularly unfair, and almost unbelievable, given your situation (as I understand it) over the past few years. Really hope that things change for the better, and soon.

Thanks fellows. In fairness to Adrene, she didn't push to take custody away from me. The problem is, we both live on opposite coasts now - me in PA, her in Oregon - so it's not possible for us to shuttle the girls back and forth every other weekend. The judge decided she get the majority of the custody.

What angers me is - she originally gave me full custody while she went out and pursued a career (her family is from Oregon and they gave her a place in the family business when she got out of the Air Force). I took care of the girls for round about a year, by myself. Both girls are excelling at school and are as happy as they can be in this situation. I also raised our 3-year-old practically by myself as, through no fault of her own, Adrene was deployed over half of our daughter's life. I felt I should have been granted the nine months custody and Adrene the three (summer) months. If it were the other way around, and I had given her full custody and gone off to set up my own life I would be lucky to get anything out of it.

Sorry to hear about all this, Locusts. Glad you seem to have a fairly positive outlook, though, and that it's to do with convenience and not bad parenting. It still sucks, I know, and no half-baked platitudes of mine will ever change that.

I think it's bullshit that the women tend to get the benefits when it comes to children. I think the atitude is arcaic and pretty much sexist. In this modern day of equal rights it appears it is equal rights when it suits.

Yeah I pretty much agree with vzzbux on this occasion. It shouldn't be weighted in favour of the woman but in favour of the parent who is most suited for a variety of reasons, probably different in every case.

My sympathies locusts, that is awful. It sounds like you and Adrene are planning to make the best of it though and I hope that things are relaxed a bit in the future and that your kids continue to be happy little souls.

Well this is pretty horrible - I've known the dog's owner for 35+ years (he is a close family friend and my Dad has known his wife since they were kids) and the dog has been over here a few times, it was lovely, if a little mad, as most Spaniels are:

Monday 12th March a friend of mine was walking his Springer spaniel on Ainsdale Beach. He noticed three youngish men walking towards him with six dogs. He altered course and walked up the beach away from the tide line. Their dogs followed and a large brownish one attacked the Springer.

My friend tried to rescue his dog but was badly bitten on the hands and face. He later had to watch his dog being put down by the vet. He then had to attend A&E at Southport hospital were he was told by the surgeon that it was the worst hand injury by dog attack he had seen and was lucky that he would still have the use of it.

It seems pretty likely they'll catch them (as there have been updates in the story not published there) but it is still too late.

Another argument for proper licensing for keeping animals and policing of said licenses. Some people shouldn't be allowed near animals full stop. I'm really sorry for your friend, his family and the poor spaniel.

My friends' 15 year old cat died last night. They can barely speak today and are just holding it together.
