Dream line-up
« on: 29 July, 2009, 10:03:34 PM »
Imagine you are Tharg, and you can commission any line-up you want - what 5 stories would you have, who would write, draw and heck, even letter em if you want to go in to real detail. You can choose anyone from the past 30-odd years, or even someone who has never written or drawn for the prog.

I'm going for:

Dredd by Wagner & Jock
Strontium Dog by Wagner & Ezquerra
Anything by John Smith & Frazer Irving
Insurrection Book II by Abnett & MacNeill
Halo Jones Book IV by Moore & Flint

Yes, you've deliberately mis-spelled Frank Miller's name.

No, no. He's deliberately paired a great artist with a shit writer.

I'd have:

Dredd by Wagner & Kev Walker.
All-New, self-contained, multi-part strip entirely of their own devising by John Smith & Ashley Wood
Dante by Morrison & Fraser
Caballistics, Inc by Rennie & Reardon
Massai Ferguson (an all-new strip about the adventures of a young man whose mother was an African princess and his father a lapsed Scottish missionary) by Pat Mills & Siku.

I could be tempted to swap the Cabs slot for a new one-off from Edgington & D'Israeli.
This fool got more comic books than a motherfucker!

Is it bad that I really want to read Massai Ferguson, now?

I'll have:

Droid Life - Sullivan
Dredd - Wagner & Ezquerra
Strontium Dog - Wagner & Ezquerra
Halo Jones 4 - Moore & Gibson (no other artist!)
Hook Jaw (New seris!)- Mills & Yeowell
Indigo Prime (New series!) - Smith & Weston

Uh fun game. Ok today my answer is:

Zenith by Morrison and Yeowell
Nemesis by Mills and O'Neil
Dredd by Wagner and Bolland (I choose Bolland only cos Carlos and McMahon have done him relatively recently) followed by one by David Taylor
New story by John Smith and a suitable artist
Zombo by Ewing and Flint

Tried to go for a mix of classic and new. On the first rotation I'd like to see

Tribal Memories by Milligan and Brendan McCarthy
Robohunter by Keith Giffen (this might be subject to change) and Rian Hughes

If this isn't a classic in the making I don't know what is.  I'd expand the premise - what if the protaganist  voluntarily becomes a cyborg, augmented for xeno-agricultural work and terraforming, so that he can get free passage to the stars on the SS John Deere?  I'd push for Al Ewing and Boo Cook for the ongoing series, but obviously Mills and Siku would take creator credits.

If you like this, you should buy this: http://www.balnacra.com/comix/Wendy.htm
And the next issue... just as soon as I get round to finishing the script and Bou finds time to draw it...

My list would include Al Ewing being allowed to do anything he wants.
And Big Dave.

Dredd : Wagner and Flint/Blythe
Cabalistics : Rennie/Reardon
Dante : Morrison/Burns
Sinister Dexter : Abnett/Anyone but Davis
Stickleback : Edgington/D'israeli

With a nice big Thrills Of The Future showcasing Carver Hale 2.

There you are. My dream issue. I struggled mightily with including Robbie Morrison on the list and leaving out Al Ewing but needs must and Dante swung the vote. Note he's in the centre so Burns can grace us with a nice big splash.
