(First of all -- apologies to those of you who wanted the Marvel Team-Up compo ... I hadn't really thought about it until Cravenoir mentioned it, but on reflection it does seem a bit rude to use Rebellion's bandwidth to, in part at least, promote another publisher's material. Add to that the mutterings about MarDisvelney becoming a bit more protective of its copyrights, and I'm inclined to think that there's potential for bother here!)
So ... after much due discussion with this month's worthy winner, we bring you Part II in an occasional series of compos. As I said at the start of the Ezquerra one:
The amazing thing about the giants of 2000AD art is the volume of work they produced and, very often, the sheer amount of incidental detail and number of memorable supporting characters they manage to cram into their pages.
... It might be cool would be to invite you all to think of the body of work of a 2000AD heavyweight and then bring us your version of any character, scene, or location that really takes your fancy from that body of work. I don't know about you, but I used to make up whole stories about some of those guys you'd see in the background, so strip work is most welcome, too. Hell, if hardware's your thing, pick a gun or a spaceship ...
In this day and age of artists nicking off to the States as soon someone from Vertigo flutters their eyelids at them, we thought it might be nice to salute a modern day heavyweight, very much in the Old School sense:
Mr Henry Flint
Over the last fifteen years at the House of Tharg, Mr Flint's work has covered: Rogue Trooper; Venus Bluegenes; Sinister Dexter; Judge Dredd (don't forget that this includes a stint on Helter Skelter where he drew a whole bunch of classic villains, and Banzai Batallion); Missionary Man; Nikolai Dante; Sancho Panzer; Nemesis; Deadlock; ABC Warriors; Shakara; The VCs; Lowlife; and Zombo.
If you want to attempt to render a tribute in one of the Flintster's varied styles, feel free but it's by no means compulsory. Have a think about all those great stories that Henry has illustrated and I'm sure that you'll find something to inspire you.
Then bring us your version of whatever that turns out to be!
This competition will run until midnight on Sunday 4th October, with voting running from Monday 5th until Saturday 10th with results announced on Sunday 11th October.
Let the artings begin!
Cheers
Jim
