It's the season of goodwill, so maybe a bunch of previously "your-mummed" folks have forgiven your child-like japery and embraced you to their bosom.  None of which explains why my srerimda has crept back up to 1 *sniff* (I only have myself to blame for being all wibbly lipped over Christmas, I know)

You're a good guy hiding in the skin of a wanker.  Top man!  And I don't mean you dress like a cunt.

An ignore function is useful- it can even be a Godsend at times.  Telling people how many people are ignoring them is just stupid beyond words.

Back down to one again, by the way- and that one doesn't even count.  Hooray!

Pffft...

I agree. In any community, as with any group of people be it on an internet forum or a bunch of people you socialize with down the pub, there will be people who don't get on with other people. You can't help it, it's a fact of life. There will be people you like who completely, inexplicably like other people who you can't stand. Clearly, there is some quality in those people that I am missing. I can't help it, but I am.

Now, I know I'm a grumpy bastard who can run on a bit of a short fuse at times, so just pretending that they don't get on my tits can be a bit wearing, and I can't trust myself to bite my tongue every time they post something that winds me up. Hence: onto the ignore list they go. This says more about me than it does about them, so letting them know that they are ignored may (or in the case of my ignore list, much more likely, may not) cause them to wonder what they have done 'wrong' when the simple answer is: nothing. Their presence on my ignore benefits my blood pressure and the general mood of the board, since I'm not snapping at them.

Can we get rid of the "Ignored by X users" feature, please, Vince?

Cheers!

Jim's only asking that because I'm ignoring him.

I'd been thinking of doing this for a while. On a forum of x thousand users, asking "ok, who's ignoring me?" seems a bit daft. Its not really something you guys need to know anyway, and the admins sure don't care.

Except that fucker Gloady, of course.

Maybe if 5 or more people (or some other arbitrary number) ignore you then the board informs you in a wink nudge stylee.

But the only people who would get worked up over this are idiots, so who cares? Knowing that you've been ignored by, say, 40 people could offer someone a subtle hint that maybe they should change their behaviour.

I have an alternate suggestion. Most of the problems on the board could be prevented by removing people's ability to post messages. In my time on the board, I've discovered that most fights break out as a result of something somebody has read or posted.

I like knowing how many i am ignored by just out of curiosity but it seems like a halfway house if you dont know who they are so if you dont know who they are then you might as well not know how many you are ignored by because it could easily create a climate of suspicion among others. If they were named so i knew who they are i wouldnt entertain any ill feeling towards them as they have the right to ignore my comments as much as they like in the same way they may ignore or avoid anything else in life they dont like.

Whats the point in having negative feelings towards someone you are ignored by ??

Its unfortunate that i have annoyed others but it was never intentional so if it happens then its inevitable that someone is not someone elses cup of tea in whichever circles you mix in in life.

I can quite understand why this facility could cause bad feelings but thats not the way i choose to deal with it as i am quite used to being disliked by others as i iknow myself quite well after 41 yrs and i dont have a need to be liked by everyone else or to be popular.Obviously there may be many different reasons for being ignored and every personality is different and must be judged on an individual basis

It might be that there is something about someone you just dont like now matter how outwardly pleasent they appear to be.

It can be got rid of or it can stay as it makes very little difference to me.

Good point Peter.

However, one person is on my ignore list for nothing MORE or LESS terrifying than some of their (for want of a better term) "speech patterns" grateing rather heavily on me.  It's stupid, small and entirely MY problem.  I don't see why that user should have to have the nagging idea that "oh no, someone's IGNORING me - what did I do wrong?" (and yes, I know that's oversensitive, but these things DO happen).

Be nicer for all concerned if nobody had to know about these things.  There are easier, better ways to tell someone they're being anti-social (so they have the opportunity to ammend their behaviour, or at least consider doing so) and those are PMs.  Much easier.
