I'd get rid of the P.O.V. shot, and the one where the cameraman has to lie on his back and film the action from underneath with the camera pointing straight up.
But without this you would never get upskirt shots.

Just about every single shot in CSI Miami. I had to stop watching it because that and the acting (oh and the script) were annoying me so much but then they have to go and show CSI Trilogy, with CSI Miami as the first one, Not only had all the terrible shots not been toned down, they appear to have ramped them up to new levels and basically filled the show with one after another of them.

They include:

  • Opening shot sweeping over a bit of Maimi, ever transition between locations being the same
  • Horatio takes his shades off and puts his head to one side (if it is a child he lets them hold his badge, no it isn't rusty and no he isn't a sheriff, so that isn't even funny)
  • Adding a massively heavy orange filter to the skyline, it is clearly added on later as it often goes around people's heads and other foreground objects
  • Lens flare anything that glints, even if it'd not be capable of having lens flare in real life, don't be shy about putting as many as you can in any one shot
  • Shots through giant and improbably transparent computer monitors
  • If lab work needs to be done, split the screen into six, blur out anything that might possibly be of interest, bang on some tunes. If possible use some lens flare
  • End on a slow-mo walk to camera, I caught the last few minutes of a seasonal finale and it was so slow I thought it was broken

Its a bit like when some folks get their hands on Photoshop and make the most horrendous mess with the filters before realising it just makes everything look cheap so they stop after a while, but here whatever editing kit they've been using is clearly still giving them thrills and they keep using the same tricks over and over again and laying it on so thick you wonder whether it is a cry for help or some cruel joke. There was shot after shot of locations where the orange filter and lens flare made it almost impossible to work out what was going on.

Then I went to the pub and missed the second part and the third one was toilet, so I put myself through an episode of CSI Miami for no reason (other than to torture myself).
if I went 'round saying I was an Emperor just because some moistened bint had lobbed a scimitar at me, they'd put me away!

People sitting by themselves in the back of a car/taxi, head leaning on the window looking wistfully in to the air and watching the buildings go by. Possibly with a few drops of rain on the window.

Unless it's Scarlett Johansson, in which case carry on with the wistful.  It's me she's thinking of, you know.

The quiet moment in a battle. There's a big battle scene with fighting everywhere and it's all frenetic and there's a sudden quiet bit, usually after one of the good guys have died or some other dramatic event, and everything suddenly goes slow-mo and quiet, probably with etheral and/or pseduo-Celtic music playing in the background, and our main character looking saddened- the battle of course suddenly seems to stop in the general vicinity as not to spoil the dramatic moment. I think it started with the Lord of the Rings movies and I hate it.

I really detest it when the camera is in a chinook and we watch two soldiers or CIA bods have a conversation without having to SHOUT!.
I wish I'd flown in those wokkas ::)

Similar to Stronty Jimmy's:
The moment in a tough battle / fight scene when the good guy has taken a really bad pasting or has just seen that one of his buddies has bought it. The hero goes into a slow motion rage, utters a battle cry and summons up all the energy to turn the tables on bad guy and finish him off once and for all.

Also: the shaky hand camera effect (as used in Cloverfield). This is so real, everything is jumping up and down.

That lingering shot of one person staring over someone else's shoulder during a reassuring hug, basically so the audience knows said person staring is a lying sack of shit.

spaceships that have improbably cavernous internal spaces crossed by a tiny walkway purely so the protagonists can have a big fight on it.

CSI Miami ...
  • Horatio takes his shades off and puts his head to one side
Oh God yes. And then he comes out with a dramatic line. With a really long ...

pause.

ASlot of what has been mentioned either rules out the stuff that I'd right like to see adpated from comcs and graphic novels or thwe stuff that makes a film work better.

Except when it obviously seems broken.

While I have to agree that the speical effects that the Matrix Trilogy won awards for really fail if used over and over againt of other films made aferwards.

Those effect were at that one time good.

Myself, I really don't like films being churned out in same fashion Gladiator with that ugly yellowy light filtering. I didn't even find the film that exciting, and rememebr falling asleep missing a good chunk of it in the cinema's.

I have same reaction with films like Troy and Alexander the Great and that televsion series about Rome, and even this new Sparticus: Blood & Sand which looks like more of the same with the slo-mo than suddenly fast camera action fighting sequences that is just 300 all over again.

The promices of rampant nudity might give it back points.

I like nudity, and I'm not offended by female body parts being flashed at me, but in a film as a par tof a masterspiece only if it's tastfully shown.

Shome clichses work very wel and can even be used over and over again.

It's like fashionable clothing.

I'd like to see such and such acharacter use that.
