Just before Christmas my dad, who's 78, had a really bad bout of pancreatitis caused by gall stones.  I had to get him an ambulance at two in the morning and he spent Crimbo in hospital.  This morning he's been to the specialist and they told him he doesn't need surgery (which he was dreading) just to keep an eye on his diet.

That's good news Tombo. I once had acute pancreatitis (caused by too much alcohol rater than gallstones) and whilst I didn't need surgery either, I wouldn't wish that pain on anyone, it really is a bugger. There's no treatment except to go on a drip (nil by mouth) for a couple of weeks alongside shitloads of strong painkillers.

I got a cheque for £66.01 from the tax man because I wear clothing at work with our company logo on it.

If you wear a uniform or clothing with a company logo for work and wash it yourself you can claim a tax rebate. It might not be much for each year but it is backdated.

Because against all expectations, the new album from Van Halen is brilliant.
Also, I have seen the art for the first two pages of the Black Dragon series Nick Dyer and I are doing for Strip Magazine, and it ism without a doubt, the best work I have ever seen from him.

Looking forward to this.

My son is starting to regularly read the prog now and today for the first time came out to talk about how much he liked strontium dog and dante!!

Happy days.

My eldest has been reading the casefiles over the past couple of weeks, and has gone through a fair number of them- four or five from volume 6 through to 11, or thereabouts. He's familiar with Dredd, of course, having a complete run of Lawman of the Future, and various Hamlyn collections- not to mention lots and lots of Eagle and Quality reprints. He likes it, but it's not a massive part of his entertainment.

However, two weeks or so ago, I put the first Stront Agency Files in his room... and he studiously ignored it, consistently. Then, last night, I'd forgotten to turn his light off and only realised at about eleven, after spending an evening looking at animated gifs of some movie that's coming out. I went up to tuck him in, thinking he'd be asleep, only to walk into a barrage of excited questions about the Stront universe, a wide-eyed eight year old bouncing on his bed, and his shouts of "I LOVE Strontium Dog, daddy! What happens to the gronk? Wulf's so funny!"

Job done there, I think.

Nice work, gentlemen!   :D

My own efforts have been less successful, thanks to the intervention of bloody Power Rangers, but a recent surge of interest in Tintin (three books in a week!) gives me hope that I can indoctrinate him open his eyes.  'S funny, I've gone to huge lengths to let my kids find their own beliefs and interests, but no child of mine will be a Zragian non-scrot!*

Yeah, im not kidding myself that stronty or dredd or the prog (or comics in general come to that) will ever be their number one favourite thing. That position is firmly occupied by bloody pokemon and videogames. But im determined they grow up thinking it odd that people could even think you can 'grow out of comics'.
