Forgive my lack of knowledge in regards to film writing, but why is this exactly? Does he have a poor/inappropriate track record?

Depends on your taste. He wrote the Beach, Sunshine and 28 Days Later. Films which tend to have some good stuff early on but never come together, ending with weak final acts.

I wonder if he shags like that?
