Aye, no driving, and the 'simplification of the RPG elements' that a lot of people complain about is essentially just them doing away with all the resource management stuff you mentioned there. To me all the changes are massively positive, plus you don't get the identikit side missions in 2, there's tons more variety. If you're liking ME I'd definitely say give 2 a go, it's arsom!

2012? Are they waiting for the end of the world so as not to have the hassle of annoyed fans at yet another game delayed?

I am consoling myself with Bulletstorm which was such shite to log in to and all that I nearly gave up. Fucking microsoft. >:( >:( :-\

Cool. Can you tell me if they also sorted out the following things in ME2:

Dodgy character animation (especially of Shepard, who runs like a gimp).

Weird game-breaking bugs/glitches (Shepard getting stuck behind bits of scenery etc, requiring a reload/reset).

Shoddy framerate, overall general sluggishness (I'm of the opinion that all the shiniest graphics in the world count for nothing unless the animation and frame rate are equally as polished).

Poor checkpointing (forgetting to save, then having to replay a whole hours gameplay - all games should have reliable autosave functions by now).

Endless elevator journeys!

I also found getting into it quite tough - there's a strange counter-intuitiveness to the game - it's quite reminiscent of games from previous generations in that it's quite user-unfriendly and requires a lot of faith and patience from the player to actually get into it. I'm twenty-odd hours in and have still never used these odd 'Mass Effect' powers that my character has - that's like 'magic' right? But the purpose/usage of these are really poorly communicated to the player - it's like you're just expected to know what they are and how to use them. I also seem to have the ability to run really fast by holding the 'A' button - but this only works sometimes.

Yeah, I got stuck in the floor once or twice in the first, never in the 2nd.

Graphics wise it was all perfect and looked amazing, didnt think the first was that bad actually but I was playing on a pc WAY above the min specs of the first.

And yeah, I know what you mean about the powers.... again all I can say is that the second game is a fucking experience. Never been that into the universe before. Might just be me and I KNOW I'm over hyping here but it was just perfect. I got scarily into the whole thing.

Bottom line I was gonna book a few days off work for when the 3rd came out. Prior to playing ME2 I woulda laughed at anyone doing that for a game

Oh... and the first time someone comes up to you in the second game and references a choice you made in the first is cool as hell. KNOW something I decided in 1 is gonna play out big in 3. Cant wait

I know... sad   :-\

Sounds good, I'll definitely check it out at some point.

Had a totally bizarre glitch in ME the other day when I was fighting Benezia. If she used the 'freeze' power thing on me just before the cut-scene trigger, it would cause an insane bug that would freeze Shepard to the spot indefinitely. The game would carry on, but I was unable to move or even pause the game. Repeatedly pressing buttons would cause Shepard to do a crazy body pop and make his neck and arms begin to stretch into weird Reed Richards-style contortions. Was quite frustrating (especially as this happened twice, each time requiring a reboot of the Xbox) but it did make me laugh because it was so odd.

As far as I can tell, ME also falls victim to that inherent RPG fault of being damned hard to start with (found some of the early boss encounters near-impossible), but getting progressively easier the longer you play and the higher your level to the point where I'm wandering through it as if invincible.

I was wondering if anyone has played these on both Xbox and PC? Is there a difference in how they play? I realise the content is the same.

I have ME2 on the Xbox 360 but never played it - I was waiting for all the DLC to come out. Thing is, I just bought ME2 on the PC for £2 today. New, so it too has the Cerebus Network in it.

My question is whether I am better playing on the PC or Xbox. I assume the PC will look better but be less intuitive to control without a pad. Any thoughts?

The story issues are not a problem. My 360 has a ME1 play-through on it, and I can download an equivalent for the PC.

PS Sorry for the necro-post - I got all excited using the search

one ,well two things i hated about number 2 was the lack of loot and customisation with different armours etc and the heat clip thing which spoilt the combat for me, why change from a rechargable ammo supply to a heat sink system that renders your weapon useless if you run out of heat sink clips? made it less plausible than just not shooting and letting your weapon cool or swapping ...i know its to avoid an infinite ammo situation but i died plenty of times in the first one...inf ammo is not a life saver. i died more by running out of clips and hunting for spares

'tis arsom! nice theres several modes so the hardcore shooters can get as much out of it as the rpg clan story mode is a little too easy so it'll be the middle version for me as i like a good story.
playing number 2 again with a better looking shepard as my original looked like a cross between riley from "buffy" and any generic good ol' american boy named chad ! he looked a dick and the voice made him even more so creepy/cocky the interactive comic has also come in handy to choose the outcomes from the first game i wanted so,wrex and kaiden survive the council are saved, ashley williams snuffs it and i get jiggy with liara.

Almost finished replaying the first two with my new black lesbian Shepard just so I can say that a gay woman of colour saved the universe. Just got The Arrival to go. I let Kaiden die after he made a dumbass comment about a Prothean ruin looking like "a bathroom floor." Hope I get to kill that creepy stalker fan.

Had this on pre-order for ages. Gonna do the Arrival DLC soon so I can go straight into 3. Cannae wait to continue my story. Saved the Rachni in first one so they better back me up in this.
Hmm, just pretend I wrote something witty eh?

Trying not to look, still got 2 to play, which this just reminded me of. Last time the box was on I was messing about with the last dregs of 1, then meant to play 2, but then I took an arrow in the knee  :D

Seeing as Skyrim's effectively finished I reckon I should get back to Mass Effect. Loved the first one so by all accounts I'll love the second even more.

2 Assassin's Creeds to catch up on too!
Yeah, I mean I’m often surprised by why people expect us to do something normal—they shouldn’t. There are lots of bands who are willing to do all kinds of normal things; people should not look to us to do that. - Buzz Osbourne (Melvins)
