Yeah that is great news. Hopefully that'll pull a few more folk back to the fold. Good to see they're focusing on modern thrills by the look.

It is tricky outside the US - you should let your LCS know about it and they might be able to organise something. There is the problem of extra shipping from the US and some shops give them away to folks who spend a certain amount, but this isn't so common now and most give them away for free and have in-store events so do OK out of it. You'll need to check closer to the time.

Forbidden Planet gave them away for free:

http://forbiddenplanet.co.uk/blog/2010/free-comic-book-day-at-fpi/

Bleeding Cool did a series of reports across the UK which might give you a taste of what might be going on this year:

London:

Manchester:

Lancaster:

Newcastle:

Closer to the time I'm sure we can assemble some information in this thread or a new one but the best initial move would be to ask your friendly neighbourhood comics shop if they are getting involved.

I know my local thrill merchant did FCBD the year before last; I wasn't able to get to it last year, but presumably they'll also be doing it this year.

Will this thing have stories specially commissioned, or just be reprints?

Usually Forbidden Planet in Glasgow get a load of the free comic book day stuff in, I've never been in on the day but they tend to stick random selections in the bag with your purchase for a while after. Nice to think someone could get a taste of 2000AD when they're buying something else, if they're not sucked in by that cover then they're mad.

I just think it's great that 2000AD is taking another step towards (re-)recognition in the US market.

Exactly. It is an excellent move that I heartily approve of.
