Good prog when I finally got it, again the density of the strips at the moment makes for a very satisfying read. I'm afraid I haven't read the whole thread yet, but some thoughts before I do...
Never thought I'd say this, but my top thrill this week was Necrophim. For my money Tony needs to straighten out some of his dialogue - Lucifer says: "The whoresons have ranged weapons!" and Tordelback hears: "That's 3d6 damage at Medium range and my top hat is only AC9!". And then there's "What celestial sign from the heavens are you waiting for?", which I'm not sure I can successfully parse when said by a Succubus to a Necrophim at the Gates of Hell.
But..
This was a great episode, the art was a major career high for Lee Carter, thanks in no small part to a brilliant set-up, and the whole thing was genuinely exciting. Some of the imagery was worthy of Kevin O'Neill, Cerberus in particular looming over the battlefield was one of the best single panels in the prog for yonks. Cythea's betrayal wasn't just 'another bloody twist', it was part of the plan from as far back as the end of Book 2, and crystalised 90% of the plotlines in one moment, shifting all the uncertainty onto Uriel's shoulders - what is he going to do? Support a revitalised Lucifer, or overthrow him? It's been a long and sometimes frustrating build-up, but I think the payoff more than justifies it. Well done Tony and Lee, this is the easily the best 2000AD work either have produced.
EDIT: Oh yeah, even the Necrophim cover was aces. Congrats to Steve Ellis too!
