DEMONCON (comics/gaming convention Maidstone)
« on: 16 March, 2011, 09:02:25 PM »

Last year I finally managed to persuade Graham, the owner of The Grinning Demon in Maidstone to come along to BICS, his first ever comic convention and he owns a bloody comic shop  ::)

He loved it so much that he has decided to try his hand at organising a convention himself. It's only a small event and in a very small location in the town but that means it's gonna be fun and you'll get a hell of a lot of time with the guests!

The stars of the day will be Dan & Andy but I'm sure that some of you may recognise other names from that poster and yes I did moan about the lack of any 2000AD character on the bloody thing. To make up for that oversight, I shall be hanging some of my framed original art pages around the place, just to add that true bit of Thrillpower ;)

If any of you local forum members fancy popping in I shall see you there (I'm working the nights either side of this, so I will be shagged one)

This looks great and I would absolutely be there if I lived a little closer!

Its a real pisser - the only convention i go to this year is that day and up in Nottingham  ::)
Such a shame, as its looking great, nice to see Graham getting so excited about it, and its growing too. Shame Clint Langley can't make it though.

I agree about the Clint Langley bit, the day after he said that he'd sent him an email, I told him that he could have said that I would have collected him and took him back home. An opportunity missed >:(

If anyone else had said this, I would have assumed he was offering them a lift...

Do you think on the drive up there he would have wondered what I was up to putting on a respirator and then turning the vents onto full, as we pull into a layby!
You people and your terrible ideas

That sounds great John and good to see your local comic shop hosting his own mini con after attending one himself,(with a hefty nudge of support from yourself of course :)). Hope the day goes well for you both  :)

I've mentioned comic con's to my local comic shop owner also, who like your fellow comic supplier hasn't been too and sadly I have to report has no intention of going to one either. I can't and never will understand comic shop owners who have no interest in comic con's as it will only help their business as well as bring in locals who may not have even known they had a comic shop on their doorstep. Ah well looks like i'll have to resort to 'kidnapping' tactics instead, now where's that briefcase...

There may be another artist added to this after having a chat with a certain person at KAPOW. Let's hope it falls into place  ;)

In my defence I'd been to a lot of gaming cons and it was always a toss up regards holiday bookings whether to attend comic events or gencon, also BICS was my second Comicon. Now that I can take my kids to the comic events it's a no-brainer. My nine year old already has a really impressive sketchbook.
Plans for the days event are now all in place with an additional writer added to the list from the poster. Also waiting on a reply from the artist John spoke to at Kapow!
We've got a busy eight days at the shop what with the Demoncon on the 1st, Free Comic Book Day on the 7th and our sixth anniversary Yugioh event on the 8th (complete with fancy dress). I'll need a holiday after all that...any Cons coming up?

I've bothered my arse to copy the poster from the shop site, makes it a bit clearer.

Plus another one!

I'm quite looking forward to this next week, as I'm gonna get everybody to draw Dredd world characters, as if it would be anything different  ;)
