Prog 1729 : IN THE BELLY OF THE BEAST!
« on: 09 April, 2011, 12:10:34 PM »
Cheeky placeholder there to snag the thread.

Well done Paisley posties for a record breaking 11.30 Prog.

Nice gory Flesh cover although I'm pretty sure QI debunked that whole '666' thing - what was it? 660 or something. Ah well run with the myth or the myth of the myth at any rate.

Hitler Dredd finished in somewhat straightforward circumstances and there's a surprisingly easy to follow Bob Byrne.

Good effort!

Nah, but I wasn't expecting one given there was one last week. The last time we had consecutive letters pages was in Progs 1687/1688.

Not much comment, I suppose most subbie boards seem to be at events, and I haven't checked Huff Mansions to see if the prog has arrived yet

What's Tharg's e-mail? I want to write in and comment about the Clickwheel/digital prog business he mentioned in the Nerve Centre address.

Yes, what you said: the myth of the myth of the myth. The previously seen branding gives a rational explanation of the tyrannosaur's markings anyway. It don't mean nuthin'. If it's a reference to anything it's a reference to The Omen.

The Kilwinning postie beats the Paisley postie for a 10.40am saturday delivery. :D Sorry Buttonman!

Great cover and at last we learn why Gorehead is different to the other T Rex's.

I have had a quick scan of the rest of the prog and intend to read it later at my leisure when the kids are asleep.

Will comment later about the rest.

I found the prog a tad confusion.

I realise I am Mr Thicky, but I have never once followed a Bob Byrne Twisted Tale thingy (or at least the ones in the prog - which are the only ones I have seen). My heart sank to see it.

Then again, maybe I have just been on the stupid pills. I couldn't follow Red Seas either. What happened on the last page?

Fantastic cover from the McKay droid, one of the best of the year so far for me.

Dredd - This felt too short, which only says how much I enjoyed it.

Flesh - All going swimmingly until the final page, where the change in time/location/pace just brought it to a juddering halt to me. I ilked Gorehead's origin, and had a not unpleasant groan at 'remember the Alamo' as I saw it coming a mile off!

Dandridge - Yeah, all going well. Not the most exciting episode, but grand nonetheless.

Twisted Tale - Really pleased to see this in prog! I've enjoyed all these I've read and thought this 'un was up to scratch. I love the mood he creates on these and think it suits the prog well. I'll take more if you've got them, Tharg.

Red Seas - Fine. I'm not so invested in the characters, but I like the story ok. I have no idea who that fella in the last panel is either, but I presume that Jack hit the anvil and they've popped off somewhere else. Probably. Although the smoke plume isn't where the anvil is in the first panel of the last page.

A decent prog.

This Prog almost a shadow of the one before, but not quite: 7/10.

I can't fault the cover. It has a T-rex on it with the mark of the beast (Damien Thorn). You can't go far wrong with that, can you?

The ending of the Judge Dredd tale What the Hitler Saw didn't live up to the great promise of part 1, although it did stick to the original joke about whether the guy looked evil or not.

Flesh was entertaining, violent and gory, but the pesudo-science bothered me again. This time it was the T-rex's reproductive habits, which didn't add up. I'll say no more. Oh alright then, I will: if you lay your eggs, which will probably take 40 days to incubate, in meat, they will get eaten before they hatch.

Dandridge: I'll be patient.

Twisted Tale: That's a lot of storytelling crammed into however many pages, and a substantial read at 16 panels per page. Quirky, not least due to the ubiquity of tiny people in Bob Byrne's comic strips. Single-handedly raised the Prog out of the ordinary this week.

The Red Seas: The much-needed recaps were slotted in seamlessly. I thought the cliffhanger was unclear as well. It looked as if the crew were teleported somewhere or other and their disappearance was observed by persons unknown on the ground at the foot of the hill. I hope this makes perfect sense in the first page of the next instalment.

Dredd story really upset me this week when the little boy fell off the escalator. Was that really necessary? Being a Dad it was heart breaking.

Not happy  :(
