Whilst I have enjoyed this Dredd, I also found this episode a little confusing.

Flesh has really picked up the last few weeks, and it's a good ending (Except for the use of the word "Juves", which didn't fit.)

Dante was very good, and I'm hoping it keeps up the good pace.

Red Seas toodles along as usual. Still not a big fan, but I like reading it anyway.

Absalon has been a revelation, as I never liked Caballistics one jot. Great art and storytelling, although I didn't like the kitteh murder - wasn't there a small child they could have used?

Just a bit of archaic lingo from the 22nd, the 23rd's equivalent of using 'whippersnapper' or 'urchin' in conversation.

Neither make sense though. The continent sized range of solar panels are clearly seen stretching off in the distance of the double page splash though. I'd have assumed it was that if the hole wasn't in the sky as well on the splash (there are a couple of pieces of smoke amongst them to attribute it too.) Laser defense grids I assume don't dent what with them being lasers and all.

The only explanation I can see is that it is either a Truman Show-style dome over everything (which really doesn't fit with the set-up of them arriving at a desert kingdom and clearly wouldn't work with the solar panels - as you'd be producing the solar radiation for the solar panels, which would be inefficient) or it has punched a hole in space/reality somehow. The latter is slightly more plausible, but it all seems a little odd. However, it was given the full first page for a reason and I suspect we'll find out in the next prog - seems to be some foreshadowing at work.
if I went 'round saying I was an Emperor just because some moistened bint had lobbed a scimitar at me, they'd put me away!

What? After the forum furore over escalator boy?!?   ;)

Pretty good prog. I'm afraid it's Go With (some of) The Herd time as I'm going with Dante (again) then Absalom. Lordy me that Dante city spread was good.

Dante in unbelievably good these days. Absolute classic 2000ad.

Enjoying the rest of the prog too: Flesh got better with each episode, in particular the art which initially was too heavily inked and all over the place. The Red Seas is always good though I do think it's reaching it's sell-by date now. Absalom was great, a strong beginning to a new series. And Dredd is Dredd. No offence to any other writer, but I do hope Wagner returns soon as I'd quite like to see the continuation of the overall story he left in Tour of Duty. The shorter stories and whatnot are all fine and dandy and it's good to see newer writers who can actually handle Dredd but Wagner is the boss, and I'm always a little disappointed when a new story starts and his name ain't on it.

Hopefully he's away loading up a big big Tour of Duty style epic!
I will name him Tharg, and I will hug him and pet him and squeeze him.

John Wagner is currently writing the next big dredd storyline - he told me on Facebook. Apparently it is similar in structure to tour of duty, but very different in subject matter. The first arc will be starting soon, with art by Ben willsher.

Cover:  It has Dredd on it.
Droid Life: I don't really get it.  They're using Crumbs as a PF.  And?
Dredd: Not doing it for me again this week.   Art/Colour combo still not working, evil priests, more convenient earthquakes. It's brisk and action-packed but just not pushing my buttons.
Flesh:  This has been just magic start to finish, and pooing Euoplocephalus was icing on the cake.  A more than worthy sequel to Flesh Book 1, in the same way as Savage has been an excellent follow-up to Invasion.   Very well done Mr. Mills, and holy sheet Mr. McKay you really are something.
Dante:  Great episode, but yeah, the hole?  First page is obviously someone falling into a giant angled solar panel, suggesting to me that the hole in the sky can only be a mirage.
Red Seas:  Get on with it now, please.
Absalom:   Judgement still reserved.  Looks loverly, though.

I don't know what 'PF' stands for, but if you change the initials to 'WC' you might get it. ;) I didn't get it straight away, but the big 'VACANT' sign on the front is a giveaway.

'Public Facility' (in MC-1 speak), so we're on the same wavelength.

unexpected highlight for me this week was re-reading Flesh: Texas from episode 1 and discovering that it holds together far better than I expected. Works far better in a oner I reckon. Really looking forward to more, and that's quite a turnaround as I wasn't keen initially.
I tried this too but with less satisfying results. A reread did highlight connections between episodes which I'd previously missed, but it did nothing to make the incomprehensible narrative leaps and posturing soundbites any more palatable. Perversely, I'd have preferred this to run for twice the length, tell the whole story in one go and be done with rather than have the spectre of 47 more books haunting my future.

One thing that did impress me was the sheer amount of life that Mr McKay crams into some of the panels. Not just the dinosaurs but everywhere you look there are little rat things and weasel things and flying things and whatnot. I like that.
This fool got more comic books than a motherfucker!

Who does what on the last Dredd page? I haven't a clue. Is it Dredd or the MC2 judge who hits something (the bad guys suit?) and its the bad guy who flicks the switch blowing up his lacky?

And on the previous page why does Dredd say 'Thats why they call you Father' before any mention of Churches? Is he meant to have seen the Dog Collar?

Good prog again. Tharg knows his beans.
If I'd known it was harmless I would have killed it myself.
