Remember the old days, when cover artists would take a panel from a strip inside and exaggerate it, giving the prog a dramatic highlight right there on the cover? Well, I really wish Sean Phillips had done that this week, and used panel two of Anderson.

There probably were other stories in this week's 2000AD, but frankly I can't get past Carlos's completely unexpected bit of upskirt porno suddenly being thrust into my willing face, so that's all I can talk about.

This is my single favourite panel in ages. I particularly like Hector's subtle shading around where her bumhole would be, suggesting a naughty dip. And now she's stuck there, forever, leaping and showing her gusset for all eternity in my brain. No amount of Olivia Whatserface in the movie can equal this, and this shall always be my overriding memory of Anderson, and her lovely, perfectly two-hand-cuppable arse. I salute everyone involved in this panel, and rest assured, when I do finally get around to having my sleeve of tattoos done; all interlocking comic panels of stuff that has meant something to me over the years, that Anderson's glorious siren call to knicker sniffers everywhere will be there. Probably on my wrist.

Might be worth bearing in mind that you'd be tattooing yourself with an upskirt shot of an (admittedly fictional) underage girl. I don't think there is a law against it, but perhaps there will be in the future ;)

Aye, but it's different with Anderson, isn't it?  I mean she used to be the older woman that lead us astray, now she's schoolgirl panty fetishism.  This is a bit like how still fondly remembering your own underage fumblings doesn't make you a nonce.  Oh grud it doesn't, does it?  Now I think about, Anderson hasn't even been born yet, and I've got handwritten diary entries in the attic somewhere about the joys of snogging a 15 year old.  Best I turn myself in before the papers find out.

I'm mainly worried about how Colin Smith is going to make mincemeat of us.

But she looks older (your honour).

A worthy prog- a great new Dredd! Absalom is the star for me now with a new dodgy "helper" being introduced, the untrustworthy sort you only get in 2000AD stories.

Oh wait! The voices! The VOICES!
Sccccreeeaaammmmm!

I'm going to go against the grain and say that I wasn't that impressed with the artwork on this week's Dredd - it seems a bit stiff and lifeless to me.
There may be a bit of that but I think most people's enthusiasm for the art is down to it being such a massive improvement in that regard when considered alongside Necrophim. It definitely seems to me that he's put a lot of effort into loosening up and making figures look like they're people capable of motion rather than posed mannequins.

I didn't think much of Anderson's splits. Poor form.
This fool got more comic books than a motherfucker!

Cass here's sixteen, isn't she? The age of consent might also be lower in the Big Meg. And, uh . . .

Look! Babestation's got Roger's Mom on again!

It's not that one with the saggy boob implants is it ? I forget her name but her tits look like over-ripe melons squeezed into a pair of old slack tights. A clear advert for not having breast implants.

Latety late late - didn't think I had the creds for my Prog at all this week, but somehow the missus rustled up a double-handful of coppers (is that an Anderson innuendo?) this morning, and off I skipped through the apocalyptic weather like a kid with his pocket money.  And it was a good'un too.

Cover:  Didn't care for it in preview, think it looks great full-size.

Dredd:  Lee Carter in colour -arsomsauce.  There is a teeny niggle for me, carried over from Necrophim, in that torsos always seem too long in comparison to legs, other than that: wow, that's great stuff.  Vibrant, detailed, well-designed.  His Judges pop-out from the background, which is how I've always thought the uniform was meant to work, visible deterrence in action.

As to the plot, an apparently familiar tale with a great final-splash reveal.  I've become a broken record on this subject, but this is the first major Wagner-script gap where everyone involved has produced Dredd that I believed was the real thing, wanted to read, and really enjoyed, week after week:  Ewing, Carroll, Grant and Rennie - well done all.

Terror Tale:   Well structured, good punchline, lovely art - our man Redondo was born to draw pretty people kissing.  Result.  However... is it just my eyesight or do the lovely B&W lines look horribly pixellated?  I always have the same problem with Red Seas, but I'd sort-of put it down to whatever programme Yeowell was using.  Now I see the same effect on Redondo.  Is it just me?

Cadet Anderson:  Love this story - as long as Grant and the Ezquerras can keep it at this level of fun, I'll be very pleased.  Anderson should be fun, not maudlin introspection and looming dread, at least not all the time.  She's the sherbet of Justice Dept, and this series delivers just that.

Red Seas:  More lovely Yeowell swordfightin', and presumably the end of the Cradle.

Absalom:  This just gets better and better.  Dare I say I prefer this to Cabs Inc?  I hope it doesn't get too close to a modern Stickleback to become a problem, but seeing as that strip seems to have moved away from it's 'crabby geezer with a mysterious past leads gang of zombies and freaks around a supernatural London underworld' premise we should be okay.

Episode 58 of the ECBT2000AD podcast puts that Anderson panel into context. Give it a listen to find out The Truth!  ;)
