Cheetors Dredd Miniatures Project
« on: 05 July, 2011, 05:02:18 PM »

I have been painting up 28mm figures for the Judge Dredd Miniatures Game.

I thought that I would put up my progress so far here, in case any of you guys have an interest.

Above: Street, Psi, Tek and SJS Judges including Dredd and Giant.

Above: A pair of Holocaust suits (and another miniature included for scale purposes).

Further images are on my miniatures blog.  I have loads more to do.  I will post them here as they get finished if there is any interest :)

Great stuff, nice to see Dredd sticking with the Mark I lawgiver  :D
I will name him Tharg, and I will hug him and pet him and squeeze him.

That psi-judge on the left looks rather chimp-like! (That's the modelling not the paint job, I hasten to add!)

I like the little Holocaust Squad vs Cradlegrave scene too.

wow! fantastic! How do you get the light blue effect around the edges of the armoured Holocaust judges? is it dry brushing?

Thanks for the kind words guys :)

That psi-judge on the left looks rather chimp-like! (That's the modelling not the paint job, I hasten to add!)

Its both actually :)

The miniature has a kinda John Major-y top lip alright, but I compounded the animalistic look with the googly eye painting.  It doesnt look quite as goofy in-the-hand.  As the photos are double actual size it they show up issues that are close to negligible IRL.

But I am making excuses,  I ran out of patience while painting her eyes :)

Excellent stuff! The paint job on the Holocaust Squad is spot on  :D

Im glad that you like it.  The only references that I could find for the HS1 (winged) suit had call signs and other personalisation on colour coded armour.  I think its from a story with Jim Murray artwork from the Meg but I never read it.

For the purposes of my gaming stuff I thought it better to go with a more coherent, uniformed look.  Best to keep the force looking united on the tabletop I find.

The HS2 aesthetic is obviously inspired by the Manta, so I went with that.

That shanty town is FUCKING SUPERB  :o[/color]

Thanks.  Dredd and co will be persecuting/liberating the inhabitants of the Cursed Earth until I get around to the daunting task of putting together my own tiny section of MC1 in miniature.

Black basecoat
Overbrush/drybrush midnight blue
Layer highlight ultramarine
Edge highlight skyblue.

Hope that helps :)

Nevertheless, I tip my hat to you - I used to run out of patience after doing the base colours. In my old D&D days I used to have to bribe a mate to paint my figures as I'd be throwing them across the room after 10 minutes of squinting and kak-handed daubing. He used to do a lot of painting with sharpened matchsticks - don't know if that's a common method or if he was just weird, but they were good!

Great stuff. Already been said, but the shading on that Holocaust suit is fantastic.

If you are unlucky I will dig out the pictures of my inept paint job.

Re: Cheetors Dredd Miniatures Project UPDATE 13/7/11 "No Law"

The half decent weather over here is playing havoc with my schedule for this project, but I still managed to do a little bit over the last week or so.

Although the vultures are of little interest to 2000AD fans the sign might be mildly amusing.  I got a kick out of burning the lettering onto into the wood with a soldering iron at least :)

As I dont have a lot of suitable future megalopolis miniature terrain (yet) my Judges will be spending a lot of their initial game time in the Cursed Earth town of "Standard Falls".  The sign above was a fun way to tie the generic post-apocalyptic shanty town terrain to the Dredd-verse a little more.

Mean was painted in 2003 or so but I put him in the shot for a little bit of context and colour.

As always, a little more detail is available in my blog post on the subject if anyone is interested.

I should have another batch of Judges ready in a week or so with a bit of luck.  Unless the sun stays out, in which case boozy BBQs take priority :)

I managed to squeeze in a full days gaming using Mongooses Judge Dredd Miniature Game rules a while back.  My thoughts on those rules along with some photos of the pretty primitive looking games that we played are here.
Synopsis: I like the rule set.

Suitably spurred on by enthusiasm for gaming Dredd I set about painting some more figs, shown below.  Click the linked names beneath for info on why I choose that particular variant of the uniform scheme etc.

Chief Judge Cal and Deputy Chief Judge Fish

Med Judge

SJS Judge Slocum

Street Judge

Senior Judge Hershey
(I dont know what the grey dot on her hair is.  Its gone from the figure now anyway)

The above shot is all of my Justice Department so far.

Finally, a "Jimp"

Jimp

I am very close to finishing some Dark Judges and will put them up next.  Progress is slow though, loads of other real life stuff is slowing output.
