Vomit-and-Gore-Stained Comic Submissions
« on: 06 July, 2011, 09:50:30 AM »
Hello all,

A good (and reliable) friend of mine is putting together a splatter-comic called "Vomit-and-Gore-Stained" which he calls "Cannibal Corpse, Necrophagist, and other gore-obsessed Death Metal bands put to comics". Yeah...well, he's asked me to help read half the pile, and as I was doing so - realized no one's posted about it here to give all you...writers...a shot at it, if you dare. There's a few of you here I know would do well with this one!

Details: Vomit-and-Gore-Stained Comic is an American-Sized b&w comics anthology, focusing on, well, violent and gore-soaked stories. Almost anything goes, as long as it fits the story (of course, use your sense however). And that's the kicker. Violence, gore and sex is welcome - but it needs to be contained within an actual story. It all needs to be motivated, or at least fit a theme. Zombies, slashers, murderers, monsters, creeps, anything goes as long as it's violent and gross.

Writers: scripts need to be 6 pages or less.

Email them to me when you've done. Please make them good, or at least readable. For every good script I've read over, I've come across four or five that probably could be called rough drafts rather than even first drafts.

Sounds like fun... I'm sure I could give this a bash (in the face, with a hammer.)

Nice Cannibal Corpse ref there, Greg. I think you've got the idea!

I want to get a couple of this forum's guys in there for sure.

In keeping with the recent play-by-play detailing of what writers are up to, I'm going to go stick on my old Autopsy vinyl for inspiration. Or maybe 'Reek of Putrefaction'. Must... think self... into brain of Chris Reifert.

Is there a deadline on this one? Sounds a great thing to be involved with!

Ooh, Autopsy on vinyl?! Seriously? I love Reek of Putrefaction, but Necroticism is one of my top DM of all time!!!

Oops - October 1st is the deadline. The final contributor list will be announced on Halloween (along with the website). The darn thing'll be printed sometime after that (when the artists turn in their work, I presume, those bloody slow bastards).

Yeah, I've got Severed Survival (the Kev Walker cover art version, to throw in a 2000AD link), Fiend For Blood and Acts of the Unspeakable on vinyl, the latter with its brilliantly perverted Bosch-esque gatefold. That's the one I stuck on for inspiration. I would agree that Necrotism is the crowning glory of Carcass's back catalogue ('A body is committed to a public mortuary.....'), though I love Reek's horrible, gargling, primitive nastiness.

I will have to register an interest, as I'd be foolish to turn down the chance to write a foot-to-the-floor splatterpunk/body horror story, although I have absolutely no idea what it'd be (but I have some very vague thoughts on genre).
if I went 'round saying I was an Emperor just because some moistened bint had lobbed a scimitar at me, they'd put me away!

What of artists? Anyone lined up, or is it open for portfolio submissions?

Cthulouis, I think he's got all his artists lined up...though I'm not certain. He asked me to read through maybe twenty submissions, out of which I felt only two or three were any good so I suggested posting here, as I know there are many whores writers out for work.

I'll ask him about artists when I chat with him tonight!
