The Comics Journal - Metalzoic
« on: 13 July, 2011, 02:57:27 PM »
One of the most regular thumbs up for 2000ad work  is TCJ.com's Joe Mcchuloch's weekly 'This Week In Comics' - a format of a loose essay about a new release and then several lines on 'other good things listed for this week'. Recently he's promoted Slaine, ABC Warriors, The Bendatti Vendetta, and the Free Comic Book Day prog    as well as related works such as Battlefields Vol II, Jose Ortiz, Bulletproof Coffin and Elephant Man. However this he's gone to town on a Transformers / METALzoic riff with lots of lovingly reproduced (colour) pages. If Tharg doesn't have this guy on his promo lists he should as there is alot of love being given to his product.

Another substantial review / promo of 2000AD, this time on the Meg, in The Comics Journal with some thoughts on Langley's work on Reaper. Last week's column also had Cradlegrave as one of it's two 'spotlight picks'. It's pretty affirming stuff to see 2000AD get mentioned up with the best of European and US comics in this column week in week out.

Pat Mills recently mentioned on Twitter that they are trying to convince DC to reprint Metalzoic. Since they have Marshall Law, let's hope they will.

ITMA!

Joe McCulloch goes into near breakdown as he promotes both Henry Flint's artbook and the Blackhawk collecton via a riff on just how good the modern Dredd is, the violent glee of Invasion, a puff for Al Ewing's US debut, Garth Ennis as Hughie and Bill Savage as Billy Butcher in The Boys and all sorts of things. Another really great piece on 2000AD over at yonder 'high culture' The Comics Journal.

Those assessments of both Ennis & the Prog are absolutely, completely, utterly & irrefutably spot on.

Surely McCullocj deserves a Congressional  Gold Medal for his services to the form?

More 2000AD appreciation, this time the work of  John Hicklenton gets major approval in almost-weekly praise of 2000AD fest that is 'this week in comics. Warning - contains really large Hicklenton panels that may make some 'haters' reassess their views. Bloody gorgeous art that could do with an oversize collection.

(thats Hicklenton, Shakey Kane & David Hine, Judge Anderson Psychic Files, Chris Cunningham's Dredd, Mazeworld, Dredd Casefiles 04 (S&S editions) & McMahon's Tank Girl that have all had approving 2000AD related publicity in 2012 so far).
