Prog 1744 : Martial Law!
« on: 23 July, 2011, 10:10:03 AM »
The slightly less than eye catching cover hides one of the best progs in ages....

Dredd: Masterclass in ramping up the tension from Wagner. Willsher goes from strength to strength too. Perfect thrill.

Savage: Unfortunately, I flicked through the prog before reading it and saw the last page of this, which took some of the awesomeness away...but only some. A landmark episode, I feel. Top marks to all droids involved.

3rilller: Continues as of last week. That is, disturbing and brilliantly written. The art is top notch, too. Micheal Dowling....the name rings a bell, but have we seen his work in the prog before??

Sin/Dex: Probably the weakest thrill, but still great.

Zombo: Nuts but genius. I rather embarrassingly tweeted Rob Williams last week to congratulate him for Zombos quality. Heh. Sorry Mr Ewing. Love Flints rougher coloured art here, too.

A prog that I wish had taken longer to read...it's all over until next week, sob.  :(

Michael Dowling draws Frankie Boyle's comic Rex Royd in Clint magazine.

Really? I much prefer his work here, in that case!

For me the Dredd doesn't really add anything to last weeks episode. Read as one I suspect that this will do exactly what Darren says and be part of a lovely slow build. As it is it feels like a week that's slipped by.

The rest continues to be between good and great. Maybe a slight down turn from last weeks. Savage has the big punch with quite a last page revel. 3riller is a beautiful little story and I'm really looking forward to seeing how things come together next week. Zombo continues to do what Zombo does and is building up very nicely.

Once again however its Sinister Dexter that rules the roost for me. Even reads who get lost in this should enjoy it this week as we're meant to be as Sinister questions and questions exactly wants going and Ramone goes with the flow patiently dealing with the current issues and waiting for the answers when the times right. Some lovely character stuff while the meet the big point blade fella.

Good Prog.

I'll echo that. Only read the first Clint so don't know how he's developed there but from what I recall from the first issue this is a masive step up.

Mr Wagner seems quite content to allow a slow build up these days.  Question now is are we looking at another Sov Block attempt or is this the anti-meg brigade?  For me elements of that scene cast my mind back to some of the early Anderson / Orlok stuff of the 500's.

The rest continues to be between good and great. Maybe a slight down turn from last weeks. Zombo also has to have the award for the best line of the week:  "Well, there's a gaping hole where this brain should be, but that doesn't seem to give you any problems .. "  Quality.

It's a Sin/Dex effort from Anthony Williams. It's OK.  ;)

I thought the cover this week was a bit thrill-less. Contents on the otherhand were all outstanding. If I have to pick a favourite it would still be Zombo. It just gets more bonkerserer every week.

Question to the hive mind - Agent Hollister - her with the arm - was she also in the previous Zombo stories and is there a story behind that arm? I kind of imagine Zombo ate it by accident at some point....

Anyway. Why isn't it next saturday already  :(

She was a survivor of the crash in the first series.

They've not explained the arm yet.

The only survivor of the crash in the first series. She seemed to wander into the jungle to get away from zombo and was believed another victim of chronos...

Obviously not as she reappeared in the sequel with the false arm

Enjoyed this weeks prog. Mr Goddard let slip at Cardiff Con that there'd be another ABC warrior in this book. Arsom reveal but feels a bit fan-servicey to make up for weak plotting.

Dredd continues to be good, and Zombo is a lot of fun.

Sin/Dex appears to have not only jumped the shark but knee'd it in the balls and cap'd it in the face.

Thought this weeks prog was flying, personally.

Huge props to Alec for the 3riller, this one should have run first as it was much stronger. Can't wait for the finale.
Savage is also settling into its flow now.
