That's got to be the best Future Shock for YEARS. So many levels of metatextual nonsense; so many smirks. I loved it.

The rest of the comic remains superlative stuff. My favourite was the grotesque, exciting Ampney Crucis - even if it didn't contain any surprises - closely followed by Dredd (I enjoyed the Nighthawks reference too). I laughed aloud at what Dirty Frank does to the Yakuza boss.
Angel Zero continues to be freaky and full of great ideas. Big info dump this week, with new characters.

I love my prog.

Ampney: Big battle. old chum, got a feeling we've been here before

thought so too, Ampney starting to feel like a rerun of Stone Island.  Extradimensional excursion with armed force of red shirts to face bizarre homicidal creatures.  Hope we get a twist soon.

Dirty Frank: the best thang in the prog this week

Got to love the translation problems.

I read my prog front to back and have to say it simply got better and better as it went on...

... well okay for that to be true Dredd would have had to swap places with Ampney but its close enough for me. Its not that Dredd and Ampney are bad they are solid thrills. Just nothing exceptional (art aside). PJ does what PJ does and has done before, Ampney does what Ian Edginton does and has done before. Their fun just not exceptional (art aside).

Then you get to the future shock which is simply brilliant. Really one of the best one shot for a long time. Full of great twists and turns and with a laugh out loud ending. Brilliant. Surely best thing in the Prog.

But then you get Angel Zero which I'm really enjoying. Its hurtling along and sure we don't know why things are happening, but that's the point we're not meant to. I didn't get the memo that said you have to know exactly whats happening at the start and middle of the story. Seems to be an oft raised complaint these days (not necessarily here but all over the internet in the comics sphere). Its called mystery and intrigue and this has it in spades. Enough to make me know the plot and guess at the bigger picture but really old skool thrill enjoyable. Loving this one. Its is however the glorious art that tips it above the Future Shock. Just.

So there we are done cos surely that's the best thing in the prog. After all in Low Life just like I said in the first two thrills it just doing what it does. Dirty Frank being Dirty Frank. Its just that what Dirty Frank does is constantly surprise you with his brilliance. Oh and it looks exceptional.

What a treat of a prog when a Wagner and Flint Dredd creeps in at number 4.

Brilliant Prog.

Wow. Great prog. I wasn't keen on the cover but it's growing on me.

Inside is all top stuff. AC was best for me. Just loving the artwork as much as the story.

Really enjoying Angel Zero too. This week we seem to have strayed into Blade Runner.....

As has been mentioned dirty Frank's translation problems were very amusing. "I am the disabled toilet". yay

Very boring cover. Davis monsters always look like big lumps of snot and this has now spoiled the uniform look of all the previous Crucis covers. Although I suppose that's fair enough as we've now passed through the thin membrane which was keeping those two worlds apart.

Good episode of Dredd. I predict another four of these and hats will be important at the end.

Angel Zero has failed to set my thrill-burners alight so far. This episode continues to be inoffensive.

Mid-story filler in Ampney. Neither up nor down.

I expect better from Low-Life than tedious mistranslation jokes. Still looks nice.

Spurrier's Future Shock was far too meta for a Saturday morning. Will need another go to decide if its clever wank or just wank.

Cover was all types of aces - great stuff!

Dredd - I'm just not loving this as much as I hoped to. It's grand, how could it not be? But I'm more looking forward to what it will all lead to rather than the weekly updates...

Ampney Crucius - Jaw dropping art for me! Good this week, but not hitting the heights of previous episodes.

Angel Zero - Yeah, I like it grand but it doesn't make me pulse race so far.

Future Shock -

Yup. Don't want to be critical for the sake of it, but I'm afraid I was left with the latter feeling. I wouldn't call it wank meself, as it's as tightly crafted Shock as you'll see, it just felt too...I dunno, fannish for me. Perhaps a re read will do it more justice.

Dirty Frank - can do no wrong. The best of the prog for me again! D'israeli's work puts me in mind of the animation of the Chinese man on the island and his aversion to turtle soup short from Bagpuss. Which is a very good thing!

An ok prog for me, Tharg. Dirty Frank lifts it!

Low Life was just superb.

Future Shock comes a close second. Good fun, top-notch art from the Hunt droid.

Angel Zero was a tightly packed 4 pages. Me likee.

Dredd and Ampney felt like they were both filler episodes, to be honest. I think PJ Maybe is in danger of being over-used now. Back to the political intrigue/Mega-City life, please.

I'd tend to agree with this. He's a great character but his story just sees him doing things in essence he's done before. His role as mayor was a stroke of genius and allowed him as a character to appear on a regular basis and remain interesting. As it stands now I'd have been in favour of having him disappear, have a long rest and allow the mystery and intrigue around him to build again.

Still we'll see where Wagner takes it, after this is the man who had that stroke of genius of making him mayor and we all know he's very capable of surprising us.
