Recently bought a copy of Battle off E-Bay, which had the old promo/advert for the forthcoming release of 2000ad inside.
Now theses will be familiar to most i guess, but as the Galaxy's Greatest turns 35 this month, i thought this particular oddity from the past was worth another show.

Pah, typical Tharg bombast.  Betelgeuse is hardly 'the heart of the galaxy' - it's on the Orion Spur with the rest of us, and even further to rimward than we are.

Nice scans though!

The four page promo was in Battle and Valiant dated 19th February 1977. Ive been lead to believe it was also in Whizzer and Chips (19th Feb - half page advert, 26th Feb - full page advert), and was also in the Feb issue of Action, but i have no date for that one, im afraid. Think most IPC comics would have carried the promo around that February time.

According to an online inflation calculator, that £10 would be around £35 these days...

Tharg was generous with his cash then...

Your not kidding, back in '77, it was a hard enough job to find the 8p needed for 2000ad, (oh the good old bad old days).
Cant imagine what it would have felt like to suddenly have ten whole english pounds to play with. Did anyone on here ever win the tenner i wonder?

And 2000ad is now 35 years on. Odd eh? or is it a cons theory?
You ever notice that everyone who believes in creationism looks really unevolved? Eyes real close together, big furry hands and feet. "I believe God created me in one day." Yeah, looks like he rushed it.
