Good action packed
cover this week. I find Neil Roberts pretty hit and miss, but this is a really nice one with some lovely colours popping out of the sides.
PJ plods ever onward in
Dredd, helped along this week by a few entertainingly exploding politicians. I'm beginning to think it might've been better to run these stories without the "Day of Chaos" banner. The last four months have been all build up and, I think, might have been better received without the weight of "mega-epic" expectations.
Ampney Crucis continues on it's merry way with more portentous threats from the beasts from the back of beyond. Really like the dark ultraterrestrial pages in contrast to the unhealthy glow of the infected world. On balance, this is the thrill I enjoy most when compared with what I would've expected six months ago.
Another stunning looking episode of
Indigo Prime - the centrefold in particular - but I'm beginning to notice a familiar lack of any plot. Not really a problem for me, but I certainly hope things start to move along soon. Oh, and we find out who the bald guy in white that someone was asking about recently is. It's
William Burroughs.
I've kind of lost interest in
Angel Zero. It's inoffensive and a reread will probably help me recall who the various factions are but week on week, despite its seemingly deliberate old skool vibe, I'm not feeling it. It's really not John Burns at his best either. I hope he's got another turn on Dante before the end.
Finally,
Low Life. Great stuff as usual with D'Israeli rocking a completely different style in the flashback/fantasy sequence just to show us he can. Lots of unexpected things going on here and I wont to know which are true and which are false right now. You can't ask for much more from a story.
Overall, three stories I'm really enjoying, an average Dredd and one that I don't actively dislike. Not bad at all Tharg. Just stick a speech bubble on next week's cover and I'll be satisfied.
