Well late to the issue thanks to these damned nice trips away. Anyway all I missed was yet another bloody brilliant Prog. We really are as we where last week, except as the stories head towards their respective conclusions they start to really crank things up. Even Dredd while still not at the quality I'd expect from the first class team is buoyed somewhat by PJ doing what PJ does. As ever at the moment nothing new but seeing PJ do his thing is always a blast.
Ampney really is on a relative blinder (relative to its own standards) and walks a fine line between action and exposition really rather well this time around. Its really bloomin' fun. Angel Zero also cuts to the chase with the reveal we've been building to about the origins of Maggie and quite why people are clashing her all over. Really really enjoying this one a whole heap.
Low Life is simply magnificent on every level. I mean really really. What do we believe, what is a cover or a blag. I think I know, I suspect I'm wrong. Either way who cares when its so wonderfully delivered. This really is classic stuff.
And then we get to Indigo Prime. Now as The Cosh has pointed out its plot light. Two weeks to capture this dimension / reality jumping beastie. I mean compared to Angel Zero we're practically talking Bendis pacing here. The thing is we're talking Kirby imagination from both writer and artist . We talking scripting like... well to be honest like only John Smith can, by which I mean exquisite. The art is simply really stunning. I mean it sits in a Prog with Flint on Dredd, D'Israeli on Low Life and John Burns on well... well it doesn't matter what John Burns is drawing its always brilliant. It sits in a comic of that frankly really exceptional artist caliber (and I love Simon Davis and he doesn't even get a look in here!) and confidently winks at them all and with a cocky smile knows it can top what they all have to offer. Its breath taking stuff, really breath taking. This is comics at its finest it really is and if they'd have taken 18 weeks to cover the plot we've had I'd have happily strapped on for the ride.
Can you tell I'm really enjoying things at the moment.
Wonderful Prog.
