Prog 1760: Sick World
« on: 12 November, 2011, 08:47:18 AM »
Great prog!

COVER

Chrs Weston on Indigo Prime. Nasty insanity and a Dity Frank look alike looming in the sky. Nice tentacle in mouth action.

DREDD

Hmm. Threads pull together. It strikes me this is going a bit Cursed Earth/ Necropolis: Will Dredd leave the city just as it is all going to pot?

AMPNEY

Great ending. Realy, even if you haven't liked it, this is a good way to set up future insanity. And a laugh out loud ending. Well, it is if you've made some assumptions about Ampney's private predilictions.

INDIGO PRIME

I followed it! I liked it! Nasty organic plant-insect carnage. Shades of Kingdom, but nothing like it.

ANGEL ZERO

I still like the old school charm here, but it feels a little weak in comparison to the previous thrills - they all pack so much into them, while this meanders on at its 70s pace.

LOW LIFE

Wowzas. Less humour than normal. This has taken a bleak turn of late, hasn't it? Will Frank live? He's been shot in the legs and now is gut-shot at close range.

No letters.

Blimey! That's a cover.

Double Blimey! That's an episode of Low Life.

Are all Ampney Crucis stories going to steal their titles from Jerry Cornelius from now on?
This fool got more comic books than a motherfucker!

Dredd seem to be completing a circle and continuing the eternal snake with the Sovs.
Block mania started with a virus which sent the Cit's crazy, Seems to be on the same par with this one except this one will be fatal to the Cit's.
I hope I am wrong and it's PJ and not the Sovs that cause the chaos.

Imagine insect armageddon. A prone woman about to be orally violated by a chitinous thing, while her husband is consumed by an entwining millipede from the nth dimension. And their little boy is next (Tharg, the big softie, leaves his fate to our imagination). All overseen by a half-dead Jesus in the sky, complete with a nasal drip.

Okay so I can't believe that this hasn't struck me before. The mention however that the up coming Rogue Trooper story will be some kinda alternative reality type thing, one of a couple it would seem in the 35th Anniversary issue. According to an Andy Diggle interview discussed elsewhere anyway. Right so that finally brought home the fact that there has been a lot of alternative reality stuff of late. Two in this prog, Sinister Dexter of late, Red Seas etc etc. I wonder if all that is heading somewhere. I doubt it, anyway but it just struck me that's all.

Maybe we've all living and typing in one of these realities in some crazy parallel dimension were a Wagner Dredd with great art is the worse thing in the prog. Maybe we've all slipped through there from our sensible world were its the best thing. Maybe in another of these realities there's a version of me that after weeks of the Prog being so consistently good I'm still able to think of anything different to say here.

We're not so thank god those giant worm type things that seem to live in-between the barriers that separate dimensions and reek havoc when they break through into some reality of other, have left us alone. Cos here Ampney ends well after a fine run, Angel Zero continues to be refreshingly traditional, Low Life is just superb and Indigo Prime some how finds a way to top all that.

So aside from the the dimension were I'm a famous comic writer / artist by day and by night a space pirate who travels the time ways able to transform into a giant ape who shoots lasers from its eyes, I'm happy to stick with this one...

...I think I'm saying that this is a great prog... somewhere in there anyway...

It occured to me in bed last night (the things I do on a Saturday night!) that the Dredd virus is very similar to 2T(FRU)T.

I will name him Tharg, and I will hug him and pet him and squeeze him.

This prog arrived okay, though I still haven't had 1759 or the Meg - the lovely Denise is on the case, so all is well.

It felt a disjointed read having missed out an episode of eevrything, but not as much as you'd think. Indigo Prime makes just as much bonkers sense when read in any order, Angel Zero hasn't apparently moved on very much, nor has Ampney (was that the end of the run? I was surprised to read that comment as it didn't feel like a conclusion at all). Only Dredd and Lopw Life seemed to rely on stuff from last week for it to make complete sense.

Yeah that was my first thought about the virus.

My first thought was 28 Days Later.

I'm more talking about the virus. It's a bit like the rage virus. That was enough to make me nervous.

I HATE SCARY FILLUMS.
