Prog 1762: Zero Mercy
« on: 26 November, 2011, 09:12:51 AM »
Nobody else around? The payoff from a difficult early morning with the children is... THE PROG THREAD!

Dredd's gone all bang bang shooty shooty, with Dredd himself being tough and heroic. The pace has really stepped up and I'm loving it. Gallagher's art's great again, especially his judges. I particularly liked their parachute things.

Sinister Dexter also continues to be hot stuff. The twists keep on turning.

I'm saving the mind-altering comics for later.  :)

Am I the only one who thought the cover looked a bit like a Christmas tree at first glance? I was still sleepy, mind.

Double length Angel Zero? Couldn't we just have 8 blank pages instead?

I thought Angel Zero was alright this week.  I've thought its been fine, without being anything particularly special, but this weeks kicked things up a gear.  And to be honest, John Burns could draw a bath and I'd want to see it.  I love his art.

Dredd kicks a bit of Sov ass, SinDex lost me ages ago, and Indigo Prime is still going a bit over my head, but in an enjoyable way.

Decent prog, considering we're in a clear the decks phase.  Nice cover too.

I've been enjoying Angel Zero, so no complaints from me.

The glorious John Burns art is worth the price of admission alone.

So, double Dredd next week?

ISTR Leigh mentioning that The Assassination List would be a 6-parter, and there's only one prog to go until Prog 2012...

No, Radiator, it's a normal six-page Dredd. Indigo Prime and Sindex are five pages each and Angel Zero is eight pages. The rest of the comic is ads, including a full-page house ad.

I'm sure the cover is a homage to something - thought it was a Frank Miller Elektra but drew a blank - maybe the Wells' cover blog will reveal all.

I really can't wait for Angel Zero to be over with, just not doing it for me anyway.

A weaker prog after the end of Low Life and a longer version of a strip I don't much care for, with Dredd standing head and shoulders over everything else.

Well whatever the cover is a homage to (it does look familiar but can't place it) its blooming great. Going to be another tough end of year vote this year.

As for the rest the lose of a strip as strong as Low Life is going to leave a bit of a hole. I'm happy with double Angel Zero (the supports seem to be getting a little out numbered these days). Dredd kicks up a gear and a half but is still dealing with things I don't really feel engaged with. So however action packed it might have been it lacks any real impact for me.

Indigo Prime is as beautiful as ever this week. With a superb line in sweeping rescue in a way that only John Smith could. The only real down turn from last week is Sinister Dexter. After a blasting opening last time this week the strip feels forced to another recap. I thought last weeks episode set things up fine enough. Still everything was nicely handled and it was fine enough for what it was. Morel importantly it really set things up for next week. Looking forward to it all next week.

Cover made me think of miller too possibly his lone wolf ones.

Burns artwork makes angel zero for me rather liked the shorter page count made it feel more like an old adventure serial.

Dredd is rolling along rather nicely and a suitably macho episode.

Clear favourite for me is indigo prime really loving the art and I have always been a sucker for John smiths writing, enjoy how he builds up loads of seemingly throw away background stuff the way grant Morrison does and the sheer cosmic scale if it. Would love to see some shorter tales with some of the secondary characters maybe with rotating artists.

Another strong prog considering the big end if year prog is due soon

The cover was very....red....  :-\

Great stuff inside. Although AZ felt overly long. It's the art that carries this strip. Not a bad story but better in small doses.

Top thrill was dredd for once. Or was it IP...

Tharg implied a few weeks ago that one or more Dredd supporting characters were going to snuff it in the current arc.

Given that the Assassination List includes the names Francisco and Niles, could it be either/both of them?

On a related note, who is Judge Quant? He's also on the list, but I'm struggling to place him. Is he important and have we seen him before?
