Thanks for your welcome everyone.
To answer Dandontdare - I have been a comics fan (off and on) my entire life - mostly Marvel and DC. Over the last several years I have really enjoyed a lot of the smaller publishers and started to seek out more non-super hero books. I have always liked Alan Moore and Warren Ellis a lot! I'm always on the web looking for comic news, etc. I came across an article on either Newsarama or Combic Book Resources and it mentioned how good Judge Dredd and Strontium Dogs were. So, I ended up here.
The PR droid shoots and scores.
I don't know where I've been, but I have not heard anything about 2000 AD. I have heard of Judge Dredd, but never sought any books out.
I just added Prog 2012 to my pull list at my LCS - it will be my first 2000AD book.
Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
Well OK.
Considering you got hooked in by Dredd and SD that is a good place to start.
With Dredd we have some recommendations here:

If you are enjoying the Dredd stories then there are a lot of great spin-offs like Judge Anderson, Low Life, Insurrection, Devlin Waugh, Hondo City Law (the name of the recent collection) and Missionary Man - you can't really go wrong there. You can
nose around Wikipedia and see if anything else appeals.
As you are a fan of Alan Moore then you'll want his 2000AD work:

Book Depository has worldwide free postage so you should be able to get most things without paying too much. If you are in America then have a look at
the US editions, they'll usually be cheaper than importing the books and they already have a good selection of titles.
Those are just general recommendations, if you are interested in a specific genre or like something and want more of the same then that'll help folks refine them.
