Jealous, much. McCarthy book would be a real treat. Ill have to console myself with the 'Solo' issue from a few years back.

Thank you kindly Ming, what a lovely chap you are, any help in tracking it down would be greatly appreciated. I'm sure with an extra pair of eyes on the lookout I will find my comicky grail.

You do realise that we'll going to have to kill you now Ming?

Brendan sent me a colour scan last week, and although I was going to wait until I had the art, it's already popped up on Bad Librarianship, so I may as well post it here.

Martin 'Atchit (from Skin) makes a surprise appearance, and the 'Moby Train' headline is a nod to the Milligan & McCarthy Electrick Hoax strip that ran in sounds in 1978; check the episodes that David Hine posted on his blog recently.

When the art lands (next week), and my brain recovers, I'll post an update.

The art just landed... Colours are more muted than the scan Brendan sent previously, and I think it's all to the good.  If anyone wants a full-size scan, just let me know (the art is A3 and I have some ridiculously hi-res images now).

Anyway, this turns out to be the first commission ever by Brendan McCarthy:

That is pretty wonderful and the first McCarthy commission is quite the claim to fame.

Could we have a whip-round and 'commission' him to reprint Swimini Purpose...?

Thanks again for the kind words, folks.  Brendan was a complete gent to deal with, and as a confirmed McCarthy fan it was great to see him revisit some of my favourite characters.  The fact this is the first commission he's agreed to was surprising, to say the least.  Anyway, will get this framed and up on the wall as soon as possible.

As for a Swimini Purpose reprint - it needs one.  More likely to see an updated version rather than a re-release, but I guess finding a decent publishing deal isn't easy.  I really hope we get to see some reprints of the classic Milligan & McCarthy strips - of all the tat that gets reprinted, it's crazy to think that this stuff doesn't get any attention...
