Batman/Judge Dredd crossovers
« on: 14 January, 2012, 04:40:03 PM »
Of the four (?) Batman/JD crossovers, how many are considered canonical to JD? I know the first one, Judgement on Gotham, is because I believe the events in it were referenced in a later JD tale, but I honestly don't know about the others. The last one, Die Laughing strikes me as a bit untrustworthy, as that story features the then Chief Judge being possessed by Judge Mortis and killed. I don't think this was ever reflected in the other stories afterwards.

It wasn't the Chief Judge... it was Deputy Chief Judge Herriman, and indeed this was referenced later, and a new deputy followed. (In fact, if this was during Volt's reign, wasn't that when Hershey became deputy?) Either way, the crystals the Dark Judges ended up in at the story's conclusion are the ones they remain in to this day (apart from Death. They were referenced at the start of 'My Name Is Death'.)

I'm not sure everyone agrees, but as far as I'm concerned, they're all canon.

Ah, okay then. Thanks for clearing that up for me; it's been ages since I last read it.

I was going to say 'It was Deputy Chief Judge Herriman that was possessed by Mortis, the Chief Judge was on a visit to Luna City at the time. Herriman's character had been introduced in the prog, in the months leading up to the release of Die Laughing. Soz, can't remember prog number.' Greg Beat me to it...

There's also a bit where Dredd refers to "that creep from Gotham", IIRC.

It's interesting that The Ultimate Riddle includes a brief reference to Zero Hour, the DC Comics event from the previous year.

If it's a cross over then it must cover aspects of both universes/realities.

There's also Dredd/Aliens/Lobo/Predator...

I fully expect that the crossovers won't be in the Case Files. Theyv'e been pretty strict up to now on what constitutes a 'Judge Dredd' story - no America, no Beyond Our Kenny etc.

Ah, interesting. It's just a couple of months since I read Doomsday for the first time and, as you say, Herriman had been introduced in the run up then immediately before it starts they're talking about his death. I went back through all the Progs and Megs in between trying to find the issue where he died.
This fool got more comic books than a motherfucker!

I love that scene in Doomsday when the council of five discuss, then quickly and unanimously reject, the idea for a memorial for Herriman.

I always thought the Herriman possession was a bit daft. Up until that story, the Dark Judges could inhabit and even influence a living human but they've never been able to actually transform into themselves.

They've always been shown in the past possessing corpses and then putting their uniform, or 'robes of office' as they call them, on (which in itself is a bit silly). Mortis not only transformed a living human but his uniform also magically transformed too.

Or am I being a pedantic twat?
