When is Strip Magazine No.3 available?
« on: 16 January, 2012, 09:24:37 PM »
Anyone have any idea? Supposedly it was meant to be available on January 12th (as per their webpage) but my local FP don't have it not have they any idea of a date it will arrive.

Seems this is not the first time. If they carry on like this, although the contents are good, people will just stop waiting and spend their hard earned on other items - I'm off to the Rebellion sale page...

Facebook page says 26th "...assuming no more delivery delays now it's cleared Customs".

Nice surprise to get this this morning(what a grammatically horrible sentence).

Hmm. Recovery Inc. has been temporarily dropped from the line-up already, replaced by new strip The Devil's Heritage. What happened there, I wonder?

Warpaint continues to be intriguing, interestingly the general concept has some similarities with Gunnerkrigg Court, in that they both revolve around the relationship between a mystical/mythical coyote and a young girl with mysterious untapped abilities.

There's also a John Ridgeway interview I'm looking forward to reading as I've always enjoyed his work, ever since his Dr Who Magazine days.

And I see Richmond Clements and Nick Dyer have got a series commissioned off the back of their one-off strip Black Dragon - well done, chaps!

A cracking read. Strip really is firing, and if you don't get it, you really should. Very interested to read John Ridgeway is re-colouring 'Fudge the Elf' in the hope of getting it reprinted. I hope it does get picked up. I assume Ken Reids estate is aware of it. I attempted to create a Fudge information website years ago and whilst the people at Savoy books who reprinted 2 of his stories in the 80s were very helpful his estate really had no interest in reprinting any of his work or letting anyone else touch it.

Just been in my comic shop (to get the first 3 issues of The Phoenix) and I asked if Strip Magazine was selling well.

The 'you've got to be kidding' look on Mr. Comic's face said it all. The reason, he thought, for the poor sales was that "it looks like a comic from yesteryear". I replied that I thought that was kind of the point. Anyway, nobody's buying it apparently.

Not very heartening for the comic's future.

Nobody buying it from that particular shop does not mean that no-one's buying it anywhere. They must be doing alright because they had to supply comic shops with more copies of issue one than they had originally sent out to them.

Supposed to be available in newsagents from issue seven onwards too.

After getting issues 2 and 3 from Forbidden Planet and paying £3.99 an issue including postage I decided on Monday to bite the bullet and subscribe online.

I must say I'm very impressed with the speedy delivery as Issue 3 was received yesterday. Just 3 days later!

Its a great issue and it certainly seems to be finding it feet. Its a real shame Recovery Inc has disappeared already as I was enjoying that :(

Aye, you're right. I just found the reaction a bit depressing. I'm really enjoying it. Issue 3 is great even though I miss Recovery Inc. The new strip by our very own Richmond Clements and Nick Dyer is top fun and I'm looking forward to seeing an extended run of it.

New strip The Devil's Heritage gets off to a good start and puts me in mind of Raiders of the Lost Ark. Warpaint continues to be very exciting and Age of Heroes seems to end the current story arc. Hook Jaw is good, gory fun but 3 pages a month isn't enough.

My least favourite strip is Black Ops Extreme. It's ok but it just puts me in mind of those generic war strips you used to find in Battle Action Force. I guess I'm just not into war comics.

On the whole, Strip is fantastic and I'd urge anyone not currently reading it to get it bought.

Issue 3 is a real step up in quality - even though it has no PJ in it (not connected). The new story (Devils Heritage) is a bit random (that 'next month' reveal had me laughing) but it is bloody lush to look at. Really lovely stuff. Warpaint needs to move on from the mystical origins stuff - thats 2 episodes in a row of made-uppy backstory - although McCrea's art is just lovely. Great colouring too. Having 2 solid chunks of Nick Dyer art really added to the package too. I love his twist on Cam Kennedy. Ridgeway has never been my cup of tea but clearly its classy stuff.

Thats a real solid package of comics, seems to be aimed at the 'dad and sons' market (no kid is going to want to read that really good article on Starlord are they?) which in a way seems quite smart.

When's number 4 out eh?

(oh btw - Forbidden Planet Belfast had a whole 2 copies of number 2 when it first came out, they have since got a load on re-order. I think they had no idea about it at the start (certainly never heard of it when I asked it to be put on the grab-list about 2 weeks before first issue shipped) but are slowly getting behind it. Would be great if it could get into the newsagents with a jump-on issue.
If I'd known it was harmless I would have killed it myself.
