Everybody put the pitchforks down and step away from the castle,a few excitable postings does not a nuter make, Locust what are they putting in your water across there?  ;)  If that troll were to return he'd quickly be revealed by his highlevel radgeness. he doesn't know how to soft pedal.
I will name him Tharg, and I will hug him and pet him and squeeze him.

I would suggest asking any suspicious characters their thoughts on the new Dredd film. It'd probably get a reaction like the blood test in The Thing.

Scojo's harmless
Not to Rebellion, he's not. In spraying his bile around the internet, on dozens of boards, he's working quite effectively as an anti-PR campaign for the Dredd movie.

Exactly. To some, I may seem the dickhead for starting this thread, but I did it with the best intentions. Whilst there are a few of you folks that have had more experience with him, I've seen him run through here two or three times in the 3 years I've been posting.

And most of you know me. I've never started a thread like this, so it's not like I'm on any sort of 'witch hunt' or out to get someone.

But I just can't shake the sense something is up here. The responses from that individual (posing as two individuals no less) in this thread should make it clear. And I don't think this poster is being very subtle when you look closer at his posts (between both his handles).

Maybe I'm wrong, maybe there is something in the water over here. I apologize to those of you who feel "there's more important things in life than trolling a troll". Carry on then, and I'll leave you to it.

To be fair, I was asked if I was Him when I first joined the forum... (I'm not, of course. At least, I hope I'm not!)

This voice of yours... does it ever accuse you of being John Wagner?

oh man - stop! I just sprayed coffee all over my monitor! (Laughing, I hasten to add!)

I'm not particularly keen on the whole witch-hunt thing.

The sad thing is that through sheer bloody-minded fanaticism Scojo is the one that ends up being visible outside of this particular board, and whether it's particularly destructive or not, it's certainly not a positive state of affairs, especially where the Dredd film is concerned.

I've no idea what the solution is - reasoning with him gets you nowhere, arguing with him on external boards tends to make you look as odd as he is, I suppose you can report him to mods, but it's just a game of whack-a-mole...

The issues with Scott on the board itself are different to his presence in other forums.

No only has he made truly horrible accusations against other boarders, as well as grossly insensitive remarks, but his presence, or as in this case even the suspicion of his presence, plunges the board into 'I don't see what's so bad about him really' and 'FOAD Scott' camps, and then subsequently the 'it's unseemly the way you fixate on that guy when he obviously has real problems' and 'he's forum cancer' camps.  Not pretty at all.

It also leads to the same old discussions in almost every thread, usually centering on Why John Wagner is Wrong and Why Rebellion Are Idiots - but that's universal where'ere he goes.

My other concern at the moment would be that the requirement for new boarders to have a certain track record before being allowed post on the Movie discussions would be an incentive for Scott's potential next identity to spew endless short innocuous posts as a way to get around it - leading to suspicion falling on new people with such a posting pattern.  Not sure that can be helped.

Either way, it's been decided that he is permanently banned, so a note to the mods to check out candidates (as initially suggested by Locusts) is probably preferable to This Thread Mk. XXVII.

I don't know. If someone thinks something crap, let 'em say so, free speech and all that. There's been an opinion about American Reaper being crap expounded on the forum. I haven't agreed with that view at all; but I don't see such debates as dangerous to 2000ad's rep. Have people become so intolerant that they can't just ignore annoying senseless posts?

I'll just say it again for the record : I am new to the forum, I have very little idea who this DREDD basher is. All I know of him I have heard from off this forum, as I do not have that much time to visit other forums such as Empire.

Why keep on about it? I posted a comment about Frankenstein in "what are you reading" 1 comment. This guy gets reams of comments and know one knows if he is amongst on this forum or not. Who f#### cares?
Surely a discussion about Frankenstein, the first S.F. story ever written would be far more productive?

Right. I apologise (see, I even used an 's' instead of 'zed' to prove how sincere I am) to all for this thread. I've contributed positively to this forum for three years, have met many of you at conventions and have made many good friends via this forum. Many of you have been there for me when I've been down, so I regret bringing this negativity to a place I care for.

Though I won't post another word about this subject, I have to say that I strongly feel that - at the very least - this poster(s) is up to "no good". Have a look at the patterns if you have time (or feel like "wasting your life") and you'll see plenty like this:

Passive aggressive "insults" with a dose of self-righteousness.

But again, apologies to all. I will not be bothered to respond to him (or them) again, and don't mind if this thread is locked or deleted.

No, you certainly don't need to apologize* for anything Locusts, you've been polite and sensible as usual.  It's a reasonable question to ask.  Most recently I fingered Beaky Smoochies (oo-errr missus) largely on the basis of his username and interest in the Dredd movie, and boy was I  wrong.  Everything always trends towards horrible when this topic comes up, that's got ABSOLUTELY nothing to do with you.  Keep looking under those bridges.

EDIT:
... but I don't see such debates as dangerous to 2000ad's rep. Have people become so intolerant that they can't just ignore annoying senseless posts?

Wonkychop, if you'd read the lengthy explanations offered above, you'd see that Scott's permaban has nothing to do with negative opinions, and everything to do with him bringing civilised discourse to its knees time and time and time and time again.  Chances have been had.  Decisions have been made.
