Etymology thread: Arsom
« on: 24 January, 2012, 01:24:09 PM »
This might be a short-lived one but being relatively new to this forum I'm curious to know why you lot use arsom (awesome) as an adjective round here. I bring it up because (1) I'm nosey, and (2) I noticed a judge named Arsom in Case Files 14 and it struck a chord. Is he owt to do with it?

There is ? That is indeed arsom. It all began with the wonderful world of Cyberleader2000 and his unique grasp of spelling. The only person who can post without spelling any words contained therein correctly (we love him though, don't ever change C2K) He thought things were arsom, we thought the spelling was arsom too. It's appeared in graffiti in the prog (thanks to Colin MacNeil I seem to remember) but I'm not aware any relation to earlier Judges, although that is cool.

Well, I hope that I've remembered right, then.  :-[ If I am right, it's during Necropolis and the name of some tank operative or someone at a control panel and the scene is bathed in red light. I've lent it out to someone so I can't check. Anyone game for checking? I agree with you though, no-one should be pulled up for spelling on a forum open to the public.

I think you may be thinking of "Garson", Necropolis Part 10, Page 2.

And this kind of thing is why the board is, indeed, arsom.

or we can simple remember him as Judge G.Arsom, to differ him from his clone brother B.Arsom  ;)
I will name him Tharg, and I will hug him and pet him and squeeze him.

I'd like to go with this explanation and want it to be true, but it would be like getting a Go-Bot for Christmas and pretending all the while it was the Transformer you asked for.

I have a confession to make...

I cringe when I read 'arsom'.

There, I said it.
