NEW PROG 1324

WOW! Not usual that I get in first with the prog review - YAY for Subs on Saturday, hope this continues!

Dredd, Yup - Millar get's his head ripped off!
Dante - really liking this Dante's taking a new direction after the politically heavy based stories of late - it's great to see a character developing
...unlike...
SinDex - Dan's covering old ground litterally.  Usually I defend SinDex, but this week I'm saying "Waste 'em".
Cab, Inc. Good stuff, not much to fault here - I like it
Sl?ine - Still surprisingly entertaining, wasn't expecting Sl?ine to deliver this time round - glad to be proved wrong.

A great prog.
Yipppie!

Yeah it all seems to be on an upward curve.  Nice cover again, are any of these being used for the dark horsae books or are they doing their own?

I think I'm enjoying the current run more than I have ever enjoyed Dante.  The line about the tramp was good.  Artwork is wonderful.

Slaine.  Always nice to see an albino beg.  It's moving on, I'm quite enjoying it.  Some of the backgrounds seem sparse (although you get that with painted artwork all the time) and some of them such as the last page look really nice.  Maybe more sunset/clowd effects would have made it.

Dredd.  I would suggest freezing them sir, then if you have the inclination, shattering them with an armour piercing round. Of course if sir prefers to run the whole range of his lawgiver settings, then it really is up to him.  It seems to be going quite well though.

Cabballistics is enjoyable, you have to try hard to be boring with devil nazi's (e.g. hellboy).  Although we've just had evil critters scampering up and down tube lines so far, I assume the hellbomb landed in london and crashed through to the underground (or it was just stored there) and it's either leaking or been detonated.  Like how the old duffers are pretty good and the annoying chapter and verse (hope it's shown those aren't their really names - partnerships based on a phrase aren't my cup of tea) are arrogant wankers.

There's something else... something at the back of my mind, something dak and horrible, but my subonscious won't let it out... what was it?!

Oh well, four okay strips there.

Got me prog earlier than usual..

Dredd - nice escalation in violence this episode.  Nice to see Millar die.....  Im beginning to get into this and Flynts artwork.  Yummy.

Dante - well this is just brilliant.  But I want to see simon fraser do the art......

Callaballistics Inc - Nice brittish horror references in here.  I like the art, its unusual is a bit spikey in places.  But I do like it, nice story and we got Nazi's from hell...

Slaine - I thought the villains rescue was a tad contrived, but it did seem to p1ss slaine off immensely and more hints at naimh's death?!??!

SinDex - oooooh my word, we are scraping the scrapings off that barrel. arent we.

Oh and cover, very good.  Id like to see more staples work.  But heck hes probably too expensive.

yer Slippo

Does "Kraken" mean something?  I meant to check a dictionary but I didn't.  It's just after Judge Kraken & The Kraken both being evil I started to wonder if it's more than just a name...

It's just a large creature from the depths of the oceans as far as I know.  Judge Kraken was the first time I'd seen it used in a way where I was unsure what was meant, other than being a cool name.

The Kraken seems to be a large villian from the ocean so that makes a sensible nick-name I guess.
Judge Kraken just had a cool name.

Agreed.

I think - as well as being a mythical sea beastie - the Kraken is supposed to be a 'slumberer': something that is aroused every now and again and awakes to cause havoc.  I suspect the use of the name in Dredd - as well as just sounding really cool - was to give you a hint of 'sleeping evil', waiting to be given the chance to flourish.

Very poncey Si.  I was expecting someone to say something like that.  Great evils lurking in the dark depths of the ocean of the mind and that sort of stuff.  Well done.

Yes, traditionally the Kraken is a lazy bastard who gets grumpy when woken and reeks havoc.

Incidently there is another Kraken, Captain Jim McKraken (brother of Phil and Doug), the insane pursuer of DeathSquid and bearer of the curse of DeathSquid.

Does he bear a tattoo of a squid on his left shoulder? He should do if it's not too late to add it in.

The Kraken Wakes is an absolutely cracking book from John Wyndham, for me it's defiantely up there with Day of the Triffids or The Midwich Cookoos.

Er, it's slightly more extreme than a tattoo, but you'll find out all in due course...

While I'm a big fan of Wyndham, the book I really hated was the Kraken Wakes.  I just thought it was dull, but the vast majority of people seem to like it.

Man cannot live on subtext alone, or something.  There are also a few of Wyndhams stories that are just sooo... boring and I like my contemplative SF.
