no tv/films in star trek
« on: 23 July, 2003, 03:00:40 PM »
How come in star trek people can read books but you never see them watching tv or films ?

Have these things gone out of fashion on the future ?

Probably cos in Trek they're all chin stroking pinkos who think TV is bad for them.
The holodeck provides logical extension of it dontchathink?

I've always thought it funny America bought into such a subversive society which could have prectically been a piece of soviet propoganda.

To quote:
"One nation under god has become one nation under the influence of one drug.  Television.  The Drug of the nation.  Breeding ignorance and feeding radiation."

I find it funny that TV shows never show TV, never discuss TV etc.  It seems like a large part of peoples lifes (well most people watch TV films, whatever and on TV this is not shown or discussed).

HAve I mentioned that Idislike Star Trek strongly as well :)

Its like - what do Eastenders folk watch on TV at 7.30 of a Thursday evening?
And why does no-one there own a washing machine?
And why does no-one travel out of the square to go to work?
The perspective on that chairs all wrong

Well, I'm no big time Trekkie or anything- but I would imagine the holodeck offers a lot more in the way of entertainment than the telly.

Not only can you boo and hiss when Nick Cotton turns up to plague his poor old mother (again), but you can punch him in the mouth for his trouble as well...

Guys, it's not real, like a comic, it's a TV show.

The fact that they don't watch TV is possibly one of Star Treks minor problems :)

It is basically a pretty shoddily thought out concept, which admittedly at times has produced some entertaining drama.

I've seen more alien things in my fridge than those plasticene freaks on star trek.

Presumably telly people DO watch telly, but it would be dull to show that bit of thier lives on the program.  If an East-enders episode spent 1/2 hour showing the Slaters silently watching Only Fools & Horses (apart from the occasional laughing), then you might as well just watch Only Fools & Horses in the first place.

Many telly shows & films have scenes when characters are watching the news on telly, occasionally you see them go to the cinema (they do in Stephen King's IT).
