Where I've seen Jango Fett before.
« on: 28 July, 2003, 06:19:10 PM »
I always thought Boba's dad Jango Fett in Episode Two looked familier... but watching it again at the weekend (with my nephew, who claimed that Ep.II was the best SW film instead of Ep.V - even when being held upside down) it finally clicked!

He was a doctor on Shortland Street.

Wasn't he an ambulance driver?

*shudders with sudden realisation that he's admitted to watching Shortland Street*.

He also starred in the excellent 'Once Were Warriors'.

Which, disturbingly, the American Rugby League Nines team used to psyche themselves up before a tournament.  It is a film about intra-familial violence in a deprived community.  Somehow, I don't beleive they ran out onto the field possesed by a burning anger at the social injustice of urban Maori life.  No, the pessimist in me imagines they were 'turned on' by the violence.

And yes - he was in Shortland Street.

Mind you, in that other mega-blockbuster - ABBA The Movie - Lou Carpenter plays the super Swedes' dodgy manager.  These antipodean soap stars sure do get around.

And, boy, what a cheery film that it.  Rape, suicide, wife-beating, alchoholism, racism, social deprivation.  I haven't laughed so much since the last time I watched 'Last Exit To Brooklyn'.

Oh, and Temuera Morrison (for it is he) is also in Speed 2: Cruise Control.  Not that I've seen it, mind.  Oh no...

I'm right there with you Doug!!

In my defence, I only watched it for one Summer, after I'd done my GCSEs & left school & it was something to watch over breakfast at lunchtime...

Dare I also add that, for an actor for the Dredd role, you could probably do a lot worse than Temuera Morrison.

He's got the right tone of growly voice, and anyone who's seen him in Once Were Warriors will know just how downright brutal and imtimidating he can be.

That film is a riot, but not quite so much of a giggle as 'Seul Contre Tous'.

>probably do a lot worse than Temuera Morrison.

Yeah, he'd be cool, but isn't he a wee bit on the short side for Dredd?

I, in fact, have seen Speed 2: Cruise Control, or at least the best part of it.  Actually, there doesn't seem to be a best part, what I should say is that I have seen most of it.  Recommended only for the bulging eyed crazy played by the bulging eyed crazy actor Willem Defoe.

'Nothing like a tropical storm, ladies!'

btw:  At one point it seems like they forgot the Willem Dafoe was escaping with Sandra Bullock.  But the best bit has to be the hilarious driving school framing sequences.

Was it anything like " let the blood run free"? which was my all time favourite antipodiian (sp) soap.
