This is the penultimate issue of BEM Fanzine- By Martin Lock - 1982

The last two issues of BEM (35,36) were printed in the U.S. , and published by Hal Shuster (New Media), with copies being sent back for sale in the U.K. NMP ceased trading, and that proved to be the end for this great zine.

I think issue 36 is quite rare, and I've never seen a copy. If anyone has one, and would like to sell it to me (or even just scan it themselves for the archive) I'd love to hear from you.

This issue has a cover by Kevin O'Neill, an interview with Pat Mills, and a look at (with script breakdown and concept sketches) Nemesis the Warlock.

Hiya, Dandontdare, sorry about that, it works from this end, but I well know that that means nothing. I wonder if someone else could check it out and let me know if it's a global  problem. Many thanks.

it could just be 'cos I'm at work, but we usually get a 'page blocked' notice rather than:

Oh dear, now that's just odd... I've just clicked on the link from your comment and the PDF has come straight up. Sigh! There are times when I hate technology. I hope you can access it out of work, and the whole thing hasn't just blown up on me...

Dandontdare

Typing things on this forum is about as far as my tech-skill extends so I'm no help. I'll try again when i get home, probably just the works network preventing it.

Dandontdare

Yup, it was the Company Enjoyment Filters at work - link works fine on my home PC - sorry for worrying you unnecessarily  ::)

That's a bloody amazing cover innit?

David Price

No problem at all, just glad to hear that you can read it :D
The last 10 or so covers of BEM are probably the best that fanzines ever got in this country, I think.

I do believe I have 36.... Give me a break in my schedule of tasks and I can get it scanned!

maryanddavid

Nice one, I have never seen a copy of 36 for sale.

ming

I'm pretty sure I have BEM 36 as well; I think I picked it up along with #35 a few years back (I posted the Pat Mills interview at the time: http://forums.2000adonline.com/index.php?topic=34299.0).  Will have a look when I get home today, and if Leigh doesn't find / scan his copy I can do it (assuming I didn't imagine the whole thing, that is!).

David Price

Many thanks, Leigh, and Ming, that's very kind of you both. Scans from multiple sources are always welcome as I can then select the best pages from different scans.

These two issues were printed on the same 'quality' paper that The Comics Journal was using at the time, and they haven't always survived in the best condition  :'(

ming

Dug it out; will take it to work and scan it tomorrow...

ming

If you're interested, I've also got this, David...

David Price

That would be brilliant, Ming, thank you on both counts. Lew has also given permission for his zines to be used, so the copy of Fantasy Express would be very welcome too.

If you could scan at 300 dpi, that gives me room to clean up, and enhance the scans in Photoshop :D
