Anyone know of a decent, free software download to record audio?

Indeed. Was hoping some of knowledgable folk here might be able to recommend something that would enable me to record the audio of a Skype call please?

Search for a free programme called 'Audacity', which lets you record whatever sound is being created from your computer.

Would post a link, but im on me phone...

Cheers Wooly. Should have said, but i've already got Audacity and, while its great for editing etc, none of the tutorials i've seen on how to use it for Skype work for me - i either can record my voice fine but you don't hear what's in the speakers, or its a mass of feedback.

I've used Pamela before to record from Skype. I think there is a basic version that is free and otherwise you pay following a free trial for other versions. When I used it, it was years ago and all free so I would look into it first.

Other free programmes I've used for basic recording (guitar, mic, etc.) are Audacity, Kristal and Reaper.

Hope something works!

Some of the podcasts are recorded over Skype, so hopefully somebody involved with them will offer up a suggestion or two.

p.s. sure it isn't in an issue, but make sure the person you're skypeing knows they're being recorded.

I use Callburner at the moment but it's not cheap and doesn't work with the latest version of Skype.

I've also tried Pamela which has a free 30 day trial period and then is very cheap afterwards. They have fixed the issue with the latest Skype so that may be your best bet.

All the free options I tried for recording sound directly off the PC just gave me one side of the convo only, or dodgy quality but I'm sure there are solutions out there.

Cheers for the info folks - looks like Pamela's the way to go! Don't worry about the person knowing thing, this is for a podcast being set up

Good to hear - is it a Tooth-related podcast or something unrelated to us lot?
