I personally think there's lots of incredibly positive stuff in this trailer. It does look properly scary, which is something Prometheus couldn't claim.

Movie itself yes, but Prometheus trailers were small pieces of art compared to this rather mediocre Covenant trailer.

I think that's subjective, really - different folks seem to want very different things from these films.

Looks good to me and I'm glad Scott appears to have dialled up the horror, as Prometheus felt a little too restrained to me.

I'm going to be honest about my reaction to this and say that at this point I just don't trust Scott to deliver.

I compare trailers, nothing more. Prometheus trailer was full of spectacular visuals, sound effects that brings sense of terror and insecurity, there was promise of horror and danger and not in "in your face" way. The movie itself lack of those (except sound and pictures) but as I said, this is about how trailer works before The movie. Covenant is simple, sound and music barelly adds nothing special to mood.

Prometheus trailer was experience that promised us even greater experience (and finaƂ product failed us), Covenant trailer promised nice visuals and aliens but as a trailer is one of many proper trailers in the sea of Hollywood products.

Eh, it's kunda hard to express my feeling abut this in english...

Like any great commercials director Ridley Scott has been perfectly competent at delivering very snazzy looking, plainly told action spectacles like Alien, Gladiator, The Martian. When he tries to go deeper, he tends to fall. This is evident in his tinkering with Blade Runner and the Deckard replicant question - it's not a clever twist declaring Deckard a replicant and many fans seem to gravitate to and prefer the original ambiguity/or deckard is human context and not having the question blatantly answered.*

Which is in contrast to the mis-judged proliferation of loose-ends in Prometheus. Again he seems to misunderstand his own films, so maybe Covenant is a recognition of that and is basically more of an Alien remake that reduces the role of the ancient aliens and man's origin tropes to some nice, moody scenes or it's more of the same. Either way it's not that interesting.

I'll take a Wooden Planet and Space Monks over it any day.

*"You once said he's a Replicant in the first one.
Of course he's a bloody Replicant! He's going to have to admit it.

So don't Replicants die after four years?
I'm not going to tell you. You'll have to see the story. It'll all make sense."

Spikes

All a bit 'meh', to be honest, but we shall see.
As with most franchises, the steam eventually runs out....

New clip Prologue just out now, it is: Last Supper

Better crew than that film, and nice touch to the original film ;)

Keef Monkey

Liked the prologue, and very excited about the film. The
choke fake-out
seemed a bit of a cheap gag though, in something that I really want to take itself deadly seriously. Also that short clip gave me the impression it hasn't captured the naturalness of the dialogue in that first Alien film - the chat was definitely more in the 'here is what I think about that character so you know where we stand' vein than the 'this is just a bunch of folk chatting naturally and you happen to be listening' approach of Alien. That's not a dealbreaker though, just a very minor nitpick.

Still all the way in for this, was one of the seemingly few who loved Prometheus so no doubt this will hit the spot.

Spikes

It was OK, but nowt really that special.

On a - kinda - related matter, I see that Shane Black's Predator film has just started filming...

Colin YNWA

Its not that it was nowt special it was nowt full stop. Just felt indulgent, especially with the gag gag. Still looked pretty.

TordelBack

Good grief Colin, you're not wrong. Looked great, played well, but I've already seen it.

Nice and simple, like first poster "Run"

I actually think this looks pretty good but I don't want to get my hopes up because Prometheus was so awful.

The McBride / Franco pairing is a bit odd as they are better known for their comedy work together.

Also as someone mentioned this a while back here is a picture of the Nigerian actor, Bolaji Badejo, who played the xenomorph in the original:

Plus video of him walking around in the suit.
