There were two hardcovers that covered all the Kirby stuff, which is the stuff worth reading but they seem a little tricky to get hold of?

You can also get the first 27 issues (it would seem) digitally for $0.99 not all the Kirby stuff but a good chunk. However if its classic Kirby (i.e. 70s Kirby unfettered by Stan) your after there are better titles out there. That's a different conversation mind.

Well Kirbys New Gods stuff is certainly superb, as is OMAC, the latter of which I believe was actually retconned into the Kamandi canon?

Did Kamandi ever get reprinted completely? I've always wanted to check it out...

There are either two archives or omnibus books. Both of which volume 1 can be pretty expensive.

Cheapest/easiest way to get them are probably from amazon.com

Vol 1 73 dollars https://www.amazon.com/Kamandi-Archives-DC-Archive-Editions/dp/1401204147/ref=sr_1_9?ie=UTF8&qid=1471538729&sr=8-9&keywords=kamandi

Vol 2 25 dollars https://www.amazon.com/Kamandi-Archives-Vol-Jack-Kirby/dp/1401212085/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1471538729&sr=8-3&keywords=kamandi

I'm hoping they'll release them as trade paper back someday.

Yes, I'v read around issue 50. While not by Kirby himself, it's easy to imagine "the ending" of OMAC potentially leading into Kamandi.
