Satanist

Well this weekend saw the launch of the latest Star Wars game and Fable 3 on 360 so obviously rather than choose I went with the David Lynch inspired budget title Deadly Premonition.

Its a Japanese open world horror game inspired by twin peaks.

The graphics look like an early PS2 game and the controls are horribly unintuitive. The driving takes an age and the car sounds like a hair dryer on its last legs.

The maps terrible as well and it takes an age to figure out how to get from A to B.

You have to eat and sleep, If you dont launder your clothes then flies buzz about you and your wages get docked for being a smelly agent.

The music sounds a bit porny as well.

I fucking LOVE it!

The characters and plot really make this game, the FBI agent you control is nuts for a start. He talks to his imaginary sidekick Zach (you) through an imaginary ear piece. He's also obsessed with 80's B movies.
I've had my eye on this for ages and picked it up for £18.00 in Asda.

Not for everyone but it is a bit different and has a real cult feel to it.
Hmm, just pretend I wrote something witty eh?

Been wanting to try this, everything I've read about it says its terrible but absolutely incredible at the same time, which is intriguing. Apparently if you get beyond the really low production values its one of the weirdest and most memorable experiences out there.

This is tremendous. The guy in Game said I should take the 10/10 review sticker on the front "with a pinch of salt" on the basis that this didn't cost £40. I don't want you to talk at me, drone. I read Edge.
He's only trying to be what following how his dreams make you wanna be, man!

Modern Panther

Just started playing Deadly Premonition after picking it up for a fiver at a rapidly emptying Game.

Its slow, clunky, has awful dialogue with some of the worst acting you'll see on this generation of console.  Its repetitive, the driving sections are too long, the map doesn't work. The graphics are outdated by years. Subtitles can't be turned off, the incidental music is balmy.  The characters all appear to be insane. There's an open world to explore, where nothing happens.  Nothing makes sense.

It's also brilliant.  Hilariously inappropriate, ridiculous and hugely addictive.  Its probably one of the best examples of videogame as art.  It frequently mocks its own pretentions and encourages you to join in.

Chances are that you'll be able to pick this up dirt cheap at the moment.  I'd heartily suggest giving it a go.

It is definitely worth playing through but if you can't be bothered there is a rather good LP of it here http://lparchive.org/Deadly-Premonition/
