Nice cover  And, where as 2011s Free comic book day 2000AD was all reprints, 2012s cover is proclaiming an 'Exclusive brand new Judge Dredd story'. :D

I know it kind of defeats the purpose of the event but is there any chance the loyal subbers could get a copy with their Prog? Go on, I'll renew and everything. Like I might not!

No. As we said this year, the whole point is to get people into their local comic book store. As you say, it would kind of defeat the purpose ;)

I'm going to try and pic up a few copies next time and give them to some comic fans I met at one place I work. I'm trying to convert them to the ways of thrill power. I did have a few double issues of 2000AD which I gave to one of them and as a result he bought a few graphic novels such as Case Files which he loved and Defoe. Need to keep on spreading the word.

(Compliment was returned and I was given unwanted copies of LoEG TPBs)

Looks awesome. Time to make sure the local FP are aware, by the time FCBD comes around they should have got the message if I start now...

Mol-R - totally understand the logic of not giving it to subscribers at the time, however would retailers be upset if you guys were to give the annual subscribers a copy of it later in the year - say with the Prog 2013. Seems both constituencies would be met that way (lets face it - subscribers either go into comic shops already and therefore probably can blag a copy due to how long they have been shopping there, or they don't go into comic shops and probably won't because they know they won't get a copy (these things go way too fast - last time we hit FP around 2pm and all FCBD stuff was gone except for folk like us with grab lists).

Also would imagine that Subscribers offered the chance to purchase one later in the year would grab that too - so that its not an extra expenditure to you guys. It does seem that putting an exclusive Dredd story in an official publication and then not enabling your core-buyers some chance to guarantee they get it could back-fire.
If I'd known it was harmless I would have killed it myself.

The point of FCBD is to get people to go to their local comic book store and if people want one the best bet is to do just that and pick up some other FCBD offerings too. However, I think CF picked up a bundle last year and so fans with no local shop could get one via him.

Of course, you could read it and then pass it on to some youngster who might be interested - Spread the Word.
if I went 'round saying I was an Emperor just because some moistened bint had lobbed a scimitar at me, they'd put me away!

I love Free Comic Book Day!!!!

Mostly it is hard-boiled comic fans gabbing everything in sight... but I have seen wide-eyed kids with bemused parents looking on, one family I saw last year seemed very excited. So it does seem to reach some of the desired target market.

FP saved myself (and the other half, well mainly her because they like females slinking about the shop) a copy of everything they got in, Of which zero interested us aside from 2000AD - so we gave it all to nephews and nieces and their parents have now complained that they have to buy them 'bloody comics'. Heh. Serves em right for having kids. We've also been buying a 2nd copy of StripUK and leaving it at the doctors waiting room. I wonder if thats tax-deductible?

But yeah, the one way for comics to survive is that those that love them now spread the word. FCBD is great for this.
