I thought I wouldn't be able to afford it, what with a one year old and buying a new house but with a mortgage that isn't costing as much as we thought it's on! I had delivery of the first two issues this morning and will post some pics when I get round to it. I will be finishing the Falcon before starting on this properly so, in the meantime, just in case you haven't seen it:

Help me hippynumber1 you're my only hope!

Looking forward to seeing how this develops - you must have one accommodating partner!

I am seriously tempted to do this.  I bought issue one today as it was cheap and am very tempted.

It does work out very very expensive but I can afford it (though am getting to be a bit of a tight arse now, especially with my son heading to uni this year).

I think I will but I need convincing that it is silly and overpriced.

When I saw the telly ad for this I was bowled over by how much fun the final product looked and I'm chuffed you decided to go for it. With the Falcon almost there this one looks like it really will fill the void.

Can't wait to see this develop.

I think for me the barrier to this is the cost. It does seem very expensive. I'm still really tempted though as it looks ace.

Krakajac

It is expensive.  With a bit of research and patience, you could get close to constructing a 1:1 scale static R2 for the same price.

Nevertheless, it looks like a fun project.

I'm 37% of my way through the Falcon build.  Still a long way to go. :)

Got my first two issues of this today as well and have made a start.
Millenium Falcon still sits in it's bags and will be attempted once I have all the parts.

Something Fishy

Good point krak.  I guess part of the cost is that they have put a lot of time into designing it.  It looks very well thought out.

This was key for me - I'd rather have a beeping, tweeting, bells and whistles version and, as you say, you could only get close to a full-size static version for the same money.

You are tempting me here.  Still not sure though.

It has a still/video camera...and wifi...and responds to voice commands!

So does my BB8 but to be honest the effect wore off pretty quickly and that only cost £80.
I'm getting this because...Well, shit, it just looks cool.

That does sound very cool and really interesting for someone interested in building a robot (and who plays around with pycam and motion sensing etc in Python outside of work).

Wry very tempted.

I think that's a big part of the apeal for me too.
