When 2000AD was 16 years old, the Sci-Fi Special for that year had a feature about the 16 worst stories ever to appear in the comic. Helltrekkers made the list.

Leigh S

loved Hell Trekkers and really did think that article was a jinx, given you could argue the next 16 stories to launch in the prog around that time could have made up as good a worst of list....

The Monarch

I am now curious what else made that list if Helltrekkers was on it

Oh, and the Fetish prologue confirmed that Strange and Darke will be included in Vol 17, which I think is the ine titled Weird Science. Good news.

Crucially, Leviathan's Farewell is included in between Triad and The Prophet. Not sure, but I assume this is the correct place chronologically, which, if the case gives the volume a nice little edge over the Psi-Files.
It's disappointing, however, that not only has the colour double-page spread from 'Leviathan's Farewell' not been used in the volume[1] but the spread has been cut in two and - and I'd argue this is unforgivable - placed on a page turn so narratively the page (particularly panels 11 + 12) doesn't read logically any more.

I presume if the Mega Collection pages have been taken from the Psi-Files volume then this has been discussed to death in the relevant review thread(?) but it's a very poor show imo, particularly given Matt Smith's description of 'LF' as "one of the most moving pieces that Grant has ever written".

[1] Considering that the full-colour 'The Random Man' strip appears later in the book.

Wondering what's in Banzai Battalion other than the obvious.
Banzai gives us 118 pages.
Add Beyond the Wall from Steve Dillon at 10 pages and Everything in the Garden from Arthur Ranson at 6 pages and you still only have 134 pages, 50 or more pages short.
Anyone any thoughts?

Davgardo

There was an Ennis/Dillon sequel to Beyond the Wall?

Anyway, good to see 2 good December releases, despite the Leviathon cock up mentioned upthread. I'm sure it was just an oversight as there's a great deal of care put into this collection even if the desire to include a wide selection of Dredd universe stories is a bit questionable. Yes, I'm STILL talking about you Calhab Justice!!!

That makes for a must-have volume for me. Beyond the Wall is one of my favourite Dredds, but it's currently orphaned in the Restricted Files (I think). Be great to have all the Fitz stories together at last.

Got Fetish today as a cherry-pick, another great volume, and creates a nifty Devlin spine image when slotted between its chums. Very pleased.

Fetish is a cracking volume. I echo Matt Smith's call for more Devlin.

Fetish itself is deeply weird and wonderful, Siku's art suiting the script perfectly, which the interview goes into some depth about. And the interplay between Dredd and Devlin is a hoot.

A Mouthful of Dust I enjoyed the least out of this volume, possibly because it's in black and white and Devlin's stories are best suited to being in visceral colour. An intriguing addition to the canon though.

Vile Bodies is just as good a one-off as Brief Encounter, and as someone has posted previously, the more uninhibited events are rendered very tastefully by Colin MacNeil.

All Hell is just brilliant, great to see the Catechist return and the whole thing just brims with invention and wit.

Old Wounds is great gritty Dredd, with brilliant art from Peter Doherty. Get well soon Peter.

Overall, this will definitely appear in my top ten of the series.

Really looking forward to reading Fetish again!

Would love to see Siku's sumptuous painted art back in the Prog again!  :)
