Did it say Pre-Order before?? Don't remember that

ming

Yup, these things are always pre-orders, pretty much.  For min-Mongrol, it's stated clearly: "ships in 4th quarter 2012"

3A are often a bit slow with getting figures made and shipped but it's usually worth the wait and I'd rather have stuff late and done right than fast and crappy work.

I'm having  a real dilemma over whether or not to get this.
Quite skint an the mo but this is such a cool figure.
All my other 3a stuff rocks so no question of quality.
Hmmmmmm decisions decisions.

Well, Mongrol's still up at Bambaland - the longest sale I can remember.  Hopefully this is reflecting acknowledgement of the short notice and is an attempt to boost sales a little.

As for whether to pick it up now or not... It probably won't be that hard to find down the line (eBay, etc.) but the price is likely to be higher.  If you can stretch to it now, I'd go for it - you can always sell it on (and not make a loss) later on.

Just try my method - get drunk, stagger home and THEN make the decison. Worked for me, but this month's payday seems a long way away now!

Selling some stuff over on the classified thread then ebay if they don't go, to raise some funds, thinking of going for the big one on ebay just :/
Can totally justify the expenditure if i get rid of some stuff

To tell the truth, you can all get screwed.

Just a bump for this, as Mongrol is still up and the resolve of anyone on the fence may be sufficiently weak by now.  This has been by far the longest sale of anything 3A I can remember; hopefully a good sign - now if they'd only advertise the damn things so people can know there's a sale on...

Out of interest is this a good thing, or does it mean they don't have sufficient orders in yet to cover the cost etc? Hoping this line does well as its the one that if other items, not yet produced appeared on I might, just might be able to justify buying.

ming

No way of knowing, really, but my reading of the lengthy sales period is that it's to allow as many people as possible to find their way to Mongrol, to help cover the set-up / shrinkage* (from 1/6 to 1/12) costs.

As I (and others) have said before though, more prior warning, or a spot of advertising / pimping on blogs, etc., would probably do more to boost sales than merely offering an extended sales window.  3A seem to think they don't need to advertise (and to be fair, as most of their stuff sells like hot cakes, they're probably right) but for a niche line like this it would be nice to think that some effort was being made to make sure the people it's presumably aimed at (mainly 2000AD fans) know all about it.  Advertising / information release is not something 3A goes in for in a big way, unfortunately.  I'm happy to pimp 3A here (and I make sure 3A fans are sick to the back teeth of hearing me go on about 2000AD all day long) but I sometimes wish a bit more info was thrown about, or some teasers were made available by Tharg, or something...

* 3A seem to be getting very good at reproducing stuff from 1/6 in 1/12, and the scaling down might be a relatively cheap thing to do; the majority of the costs are probably associated with the initial designs and sculpts and whatnot, and once those are figured out, changing scale is fairly easy, I assume (especially for figures not requiring stitched clothing, zips, etc.).

^This.

Also: buy a wee Mongrol. You'll love it and help ensure there's more made.

I Have a few 3a figures and they are all brilliant. To the point where I'm selling a lot of my collectables off to buy more.
Very excited for Mongrol but really Looking forward to Hammerstein and deadlock if we ever get em.
I would advise anyone whose even slightly tempted to get this to just do it, you won't regret it.
what I really want is a 3a Nemesis figure!

Yup, gotta agree. ThreeA takes up nearly ask much of my time as 2000AD now, really fun figs.

If I'm happy with the 1/12 Mongrol I ordered (and judging by the pictures I don't think that will be a problem) I may look in to buying more of the ABCs if they produce them at that scale.  The big ones are lovely but I can't go to that price (and the size would be awkward). Possibly the same for characters such as Johnny Alpha and Dredd, although I think 3A's work particularly fits robots well.
