Listened to the Cult's Love album for the first time in ages this week. then listened to it several times more. I'd forgotten how much I loved it way back when.

Mikey

Oh! Love by the Cult! Good call, Static; I actually don't believe I have a copy in a format I can play at the moment - I only ever had it on tape and really should have bought the vinyl...

Oh yeah momma, just heard a 1993 Sterolab session track on Marc Riley just now...to the vinyl collection...

Mikey

Stereolab! I was just about to mention them - I checked out 'Mars Audiac Quintet' last night for the first time in ages:)  sings 'two eenevitabuls, wee can't avoid dyiing' as if he's a French lady (no accordian)...

You're just obsessed with that accordion lady I mentioned aren't you?  If I can find the photo (pre-digital so it'll involve actual rummaging) I'll try and post it here for you, Mikey.  She wore a very short polka dot dress (which also pleased my father - and not just because of the musical joke implied).

Love is, in my opinion, one of those perfect albums- like Born to Run,Ten, Badmotorfinger or Mule Variations it does not contain any duff tracks at all.

Love is about as close to a perfect album as you can get. Went to see them live a few months ago and they played the entire album (25th anniversary of the release tour deeley)
There is a very sexy CD package you can get for not a lot of money
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Love-Omnibus-Cult/dp/B002GU605G/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1265300458&sr=8-1
or a slightly less sexy but still awesome version if you want to pay less
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Love-Expanded-Cult/dp/B002F3BP8Q/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1265300458&sr=8-3

I have both as I have to have everything they release :D

Mikey

Cheers StaticG - I've never seen them live!

I was a fan of them as well and had quite a few of their albums that were all coloured vinyl plus singles but they went when i lost my entire record collection which pissed me off no end.Saw them play live 3 times as well.

Another voice to add to the appreciation of The Cult - Love as well as i used to play that album to death and i still listen to it every so often.I liked their previous material going back to when they were The Southern Death Cult plus a lot of their material after Love wasnt bad either and they were excellent live.

Another album with with no filler is Who else by Jeff Beck that i rediscovered recently.I have had to buy another copy as my previous copy is stuck inside my SACD/DVD player that inexplicably died the other night.

Never really got on with Stereolab beyond their first couple of singles.

For anyone else who misses the shoegazing sound of their youth, I've picked up a couple of Asobi Seksu albums and found them to be an excellent modern substitute. They also have a prety Japanese girl who sings.
