Yeah, was big fan of the first 3 and was looking forward to this but the reviews have been largely negative on many of the aspects of the game. Glad to hear you are enjoying it. Think I'm going to pick it up second hand as choke at the thought of paying £40+ for a game. Will pick it up for 30 in a couple of weeks.

I've only ever played 3  part waty through - thought it was fun but way too cut-sceney.

I'm struggling with the concept of £60 for a Switch game.  Managed to pick up a pre-owned Zelda because after two weeks, the person returning it thought it was "too big"
Be excellent to each other. And party on!

Only £48 (new) on Amazon, Tips; https://www.amazon.co.uk/Legend-Zelda-Breath-Nintendo-Switch/dp/B01N1083WZ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1490275331&sr=8-1&keywords=ZELDA+BREATH+OF+THE+WILD

Well worth £60 (€70) anyway!

I would include Witcher 3 in that comment.

Quote from: jacob g on 10 March, 2017, 12:49:57 PMHZD is perfect patchwork of what works in every action and sandbox games without failures of modern pointless Ubisoft style open world games. It's not rpg (and I don't know why Sony advertise game as one) but 100% action game. I hope I continue to enjoy the game as I go further in story.

Horizon has definitely some role-playing elements, like the pretty basic upgrading system.

Played 10hrs of Mass Effect Andromeda over the weekend on the EA Early Access trial, and been absolutely itching for its proper release today so I can jump back into it. It seems to be getting a bit of a kicking (and yeah, some of the animations lack polish) but all the anger on the internet seems totally out of proportion and makes me feel like everyone is playing a different game to me. As a huge fan of the series I couldn't be happier so far. That goosebumpy thrill of playing Mass Effect again is great enough that I can (so far) look beyond the rough edges. Haven't seen anything broken or that would hamper my thrill power at all.

I'm probably just buying the game because it takes place in space. I'm grossly biased when it comes to anything that has to do with space.

Seconded. I found myself only playing W3 main quests just to unlock new areas and side quests.
You may quote me on that.

I'm not a fan of Witcher (as a series) so there's is a reason why I excluded W3 from my post ;) Maybe cuz I played Witcher from first entry where I hated many small things about him, and maybe because Witcher 3 was so buggy after release I was to disappointed to gave him full atention after first two or three patches.

I get why people like W3, but I can't (and I tried few times).

On the other hand HZD gave me simple and well crafted fun I needed after so many disappointing new open word games.

RESIDENT EVIL 4 on the WII (via the WII U).  I'd forgotten how much fun it is. Love the overshoulder gun mechanic - works a treat with the Wiimotes.

After the original Doom I think RE4 is the game I have bought the most versions of. I consider it to be an absolute fucking masterpiece. It manages to include both QTE's and escorting NPC's without being completely dreadful. The village siege near the start just never, ever gets old.
Hmm, just pretend I wrote something witty eh?

The world in Horizon has definitely a naturalistic beauty and allure, but its human population is dull and they use awful clothes. The lore, characters and mysticism in The Witcher series is much more appetizing.

Agree to disagree, I hate character writing in Witcher series (lockeroom humor of NPCs is the worst) and maybe because I read the books I can't get behind lore aspect that much, it's nothing new for me and it's much weaker than original.

"My favourite type of magic" scene for example.

Throbbing unfulfilled desire for a Nintendo Switch and Breath of the Wild has sent me into full-on Zelda nostalgia, so I've been playing a *lot* of Legend of Zelda (1986) on the 3DS Virtual Console.  It really is a fantastic game, but I'm trying to win at least the first quest with just a PDF of the original English-language manual and no other walkthroughs or hints.  It's given me a real appreciation for the sheer scale of systematic grinding that must have gone into ferreting out all its secrets pre-internet: I can see no logical way of working out where the hell the various secret chambers are in Overworld, other than planting bombs/setting fires at every possible rockface and bush sprite.  Which I won't be doing. Ever.

A few exceptions in a series with an overall high standard.

I really don't get it why you asked for examples when you clearly had your answer before I even wrote mine.

Oh, don't be like that. You asked for examples, and he gave one.

I think the Witcher is great and though some of the writing veers on the Carry On style of humor (or for a loftier example, Shakespeare and the cheap seats), it's a refreshing change from the serious po-faced nature of much of fantasy and fits in with the pretty crass nature of existence as a faux medieval peasant. It stands as an interesting contrast to the depth of world-building and intricacy of lore, character and political tension that the series is more well known for, and I don't think it really suffers for it though.

To each their own though. I mean how anyone could think Alien Isolation was rubbish completely baffles me...I've never been so tense in my own living room.
