Richard Branson is once again advertising his so-called Internet service (4 times broadband/blah blah). Now for the past month my Internet advice has been pretty much non-existent. Has anyone else had problems; and if so-have you had any joy contacting them. All I'm getting from them is, "we're aware of the problem and doing our best to fix it."  :-*
"Where once you fought to stop the trap from closing...Now you lay the bait!"

Hmm, just pretend I wrote something witty eh?

I had huuuuge problems with my Virgin Media Broadband that started last December. Thier customer service is f*cking awful. Our connection would crawl to a virtual stop after 5pm, sometimes as slow as 0.2 meg (it was supposedly "up to" 10 meg.) Tey blamed it on "over utilisation", which translates as "we have oversold in your area". I held on for the speed increase, which happened in May, just on the slim hope that the suerhub would sort it. It solved nothing. In the end, I had to ditch VM and go BT. I now have 58 meg BT Infinity with, more importanatly, no loss of performance in the evening.

If there is any problems with VM Cable BB service then it would most likely be down to damaged cable in the street or an installer has moved your particular cable feed in the DP for someone else who he has just installed.
It's bullshit about overselling in an area. If you have ordered the 60meg package then at peak times it should drop by no more than 10meg.

Oh, I might also add that Virgin gave several fix dates for my poor connection, all of which slipped. It went from Feb to June then to October. The phrase piss up in a brewery springs to mind. I susect that, should I encounter issues with BT, the customer service will be just as useful. :/

I'm on Virgin and have had few issues, although lately I have lost connection a couple of times. I'm not sure if that's there side or mine though.

I'm still on the slo-mo broadband, although most of the time it seems fast enough for my needs.

Pete Wells

Well typically, I've to switched from Virgin, with whom I had no problems, to Talktalk and now every night my service is appalling.

Buttonman

Like Pete I idioticallly (well it was the wife) switched from Virgin to Orange and in return for saving £12 a month I'm now blessed with stop start porn and service interuptions. Spiffing!

The Enigmatic Dr X

I recently moved to Talk Talk and trippled my broadband speed to 1.1 Megs.

So you can all fuck off with you "ooh, I can only get 6 Meg" shite.

BT recently upgraded my exchange to Infinity. My postcode is getting no improvement.

There's always someone worse off than you, so go enjoy your hi-def porn and leave me to wallow in not spot hell.
Lock up your spoons!

We had problems with Virgin for about six months as they were 'upgrading the exchange", or some shit. The service was so poor at one point that they agreed to suspend payment for three or four months (and I had to ring them a lot - no-one seems to write anything down, I got sick of re-explaining the problem afresh every time I got through). I despaired of it ever improving, especially as their estimated completion date kept extending. But to be fair, only a little bit later than they finally claimed, the service did improve greatly, and has been pretty fast and flawless ever since.

Over the past two years Virgin have been radically upgrading existing areas up and down the country. The main problem is that they have inherited some dire networks which date from the early ninties. They could never have envisioned the path foreward with broardband and now the new TIVO box which can be a bastard in not installed properly. Some areas may still need major works.
It will be quite a while before new areas are constructed because there is still a whole money wise from when NTL monopolised the cable industry.
Originally all we had to install was the crappy analogue TV and phone service. Now there is so much more that goes into an install and the pay is still shit.
I can put my hand on my heart and say it is by far the best for internet service (if the installer can be arsed to do his job properly).

My service with Virgin is a decent speed (certainly better than I was getting with BT, which was dangerously close to dial-up) but it does disconnect very often. Particularly notice it on Xbox Live, I've been booted off about 4 times today, once seemingly because the phone rang.

If your X-Box is connected wirelessly then you might need to change the channel on your wireless modem. 7 or 10 is normally what I set them to. All information to do this should be on the back of the hub.

Forgot to add.
Depending on what speed you have gone for.
In advanced settings choose wireless radio then for wireless mode :-
Up to 60 meg its 144mps.
Over 60 meg its 300mps.

This can make a difference if the setting is wrong.
