Now obviously people can believe whatever they like, but I'm becoming increasingly concerned with the strangle-hold that Organised Religion has over the World. It dominates Politics, the Media, and is still used as a benchmark for good behavior.

This is my opinion, I would like to know what others think.

Peace  :)

I shall be watching this thread very carefully. By all Means discuss this subject, but do it nicely or I'll lock the motherdrokker.

I'm not trying to incite hatred, I just like a good debate.  :)

I'll repeat my quote from a previous thread and leave it at that, cos I don't want to offend religious types (or at least not ones that are also 2000ad fans. The rest of 'em can drokk 'emselves!)

Religion is like a large dog. If it's yours it can be a source of comfort and security; if it's somebody else's it can be very frightening; but in either case, best to keep it away from small children.

Though that doesn't quite match with my feelings on organised religion, I certainly prefer that simile to the version that substitutes "dog" for "penis". Though the frightening aspect then becomes a tad skewed...

THis thread reminds me though, dontcha love giant statues of religious figures? The sheer scale of them is brilliant.

This was in my Facebook the other day :

Can someone more motivated than me research it and let me know if it's true? Are we in a 'Matrix' style cycle where stuff keeps reloading every few years? To be clear, I don't believe in Beatles, I just believe in me.

Must call shenangigans: As a result of some scientific use of the ultimately reliable search-tools that are 'Wikipedia' and my insomnia-crazed brain; I can find nothing whatsoever to support the claims of that nicely-drawn cartoon: I'm not suggesting that there aren't legends older than, or concurrent to, the Gospel stories that might bear a striking resemblance,- just that Horus aint your guy.

Horus lives in the sky, and the sun is one of his eyes and the moon is his other. Whether he is ever 'resurrected' if his afterlife is him ruling in the kingdom of the dead is another question. He does seem to disappear from the month of Athyr for three days in one account but he seems to be a very different chap from Everyone's Favourite Nazarene, consider this delightful tale:

...According to Papyrus Chester-Beatty I, Set is depicted as trying to prove his dominance by seducing Horus and then having intercourse with him. However, Horus places his hand between his thighs and catches Set's semen, then subsequently throws it in the river, so that he may not be said to have been inseminated by Set.
Horus then deliberately spreads his own semen on some lettuce, which was Set's favorite food.
After Set had eaten the lettuce, they went to the gods to try to settle the argument over the rule of Egypt. The gods first listened to Set's claim of dominance over Horus, and call his semen forth, but it answered from the river, invalidating his claim. Then, the gods listened to Horus' claim of having dominated Set, and call his semen forth, and it answered from inside Set.

In other words: Horus is one God you dont want serving you in McDonalds.

The Prodigal

I'm a very imperfect Christian who loves 2000AD. Here's my take:

1. I'm a committed secularist-faith and state should not co-habit. It poisons everything. Faith or the lack of it is personal. Keep it that way.
2. Christians should distinguish themselves by service not the pursuit of power whether that be political, economic etc
3. Christians should not want to bomb Iran.
4. Christians should be the least prejudiced people not the most prejudiced.
5. Christians need not set their brains on the shelf-science is good and needs embraced.
6. Jesus was a cool dude. Religion often warps him and his message.
7. Christians are not all ring wing fanatics-some are seditious left wing types (this one is a socialist).
8. God and nationalism are a particularly poisonous mix.
9. A faith questioned is a healthy faith. I question mine constantly from every conceivable angle and often doubt it. I don't get upset when others do the same or raise relevant issues and questions.
10. I know all about ugly passages in the OT,the Jehovah v Jesus thing and the what about tsunamis question.
11.The analogies with other pagan deities is, I believe, over-cooked.
12. I love 2000AD and am looking forward to Brass sun.

Cheers guys (tempted to say God bless).
